I get fed up when people with 4+kids make comments when i walk my 5 gosh look how many dogs they have ...then i shout gosh look how many kids they have :p:p:p:p:p:p:po_O:):)
 
Jasper seems much more lively this week than last - just a couple of degrees drop in temperatures make all the difference! We took a different route round the heath today, which he enjoyed. Just as well as I was following my nose at one point and my sense of direction is abysmal! We clocked up 4 miles in total.

Someone had obviously decided that if they were going to enjoy the view, they wanted to enjoy it in comfort:

He barked at me when he came in from having his tea this evening. The reason? Usually when he comes in and I'm in the kitchen, I'm fixing our tea and ask him to leave the room so he can't 'help'. Tea was safely in the oven, but he still insisted in being asked to leave the room so he could get his reward.
 
JudyN, all I can say is its obvious that Jasper has you well trained, lol.
 
I prefer to think of it as mutual manipulation, @Biker John ;) He thinks he's trained me to give him treats when he leaves the kitchen, I think I've trained him to leave the kitchen without protest when I want him to - win-win!

This morning, OH and I left Jasper home alone for the first time since the end of March for a quick nip to the shops. We've been avoiding going to shops unless absolutely necessary (I get my groceries delivered), so haven't had a reason to go out. He seemed to be fine, which is a relief.
 
Phewwww....it is getting a bit warm today! Our dogs have not shown much life today...no playing...no wondering into garden unless absolutely necessary, in fact I'm sure they've decided to cross their legs and wait until evening and sun down! Despite the heat, I'm enjoying the quiet time away from the girls and getting some jobs done without any disturbance from them. From time to time I just keep checking that they are still alive...I'm not used to this 'no dogs around ankles' life o_O..:rolleyes:
So.....how are you all coping?
 
It got up to 32 here :eek::eek::eek::p:p:p:cool::cool:but has really cooled down in the last hour and is now ...24....
I closed all of the curtains and blinds and have only just opened them amd doors and windows and there is a lovely cool breeze ....
At 430am it was 22 when i walked this morning :p
 
It was fine in the woods this morning - there's plenty of water there as well as shade. Though I'm getting a bit fed up with going there as Jasper just wants to hang around the cricket field and keep an eye out for the treat fairies. Still, I met a couple of friends I haven't seen in over a year, which was lovely. Not so lovely that one had recently lost her Sporting Lucas terrier at the age of 11, and the other's Basset hound (who was always ridiculously playful and used to try to get Jasper to chase her!) has bad arthritis.

The rest of the day he's been dozing round the house, with the occasional whingeing - 'Muuum, I'm too hot,' 'Daaaad, I'm too hot,' 'Muuum, it's time for afternoon walk so I have to whine even though I don't want one,' 'Daaaad, it must be tea time, surely,' 'Muuuuum, Dad told me I had to come down here because he needs to think and it must be tea time anyway.'

He's got a bit of a funny tum too, which he seems to be prone to in hot weather - he's been emitting smells that rival a sewage farm:confused:
 
The joys of having a house where the walls are around 2 1/2 ft thick. It's lovely n cool indoors.
 
Jasper's very unsettled this morning, presumably because of the heat. He will only settle if OH is sitting down quietly in a room with him... preferably in the spare room where he currently is all the working week. Which is a pain, as OH doesn't want to spend his weekend in his 'office' at his work desk, and I want him to be doing jobs :D

I've had to order him (Jasper, not OH) some new dog toys, as I've come to the conclusion that both of his Squiddys https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000UJV5WI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and his Small Intestines https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00JRPQKO4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 have been nicked by foxes. But I do like thinking that somewhere nearby, there's a litter of fox cubs playing with them!
 
We are at the beginning of a heat wave, which is o fun neither for Savi nor for me. This morning we set out at half past six when temperatures were still bearable. Almost all the doghs around here prefer short walks at the moment, no wonder. Guess Jasper will be happy getting new toys, Olli always was. The daughter of a friend of mine has a fine garden in which a fox has made its home. Food is expected at a special time of day and shoes disappear from time to time. have a nice weekend.:)
 
A bit of an unusual request, but does anyone with knowledge of plants (or male dogs) know of any plants that can withstand being used as an occasional pee post? We have lost several plants to ‘pee damage’, so I am trying to find something that might be a little more resilient but obviously not too prickly:eek: The other option is to try to train the dog not to pee on the plants, or at least aim for the weeds, but not even sure how to attempt that!
 
How about just a simple wooden fence post or a small artificial xmas treeo_O
 
Rather than training him what not to pee on, I'd train him to know where he should go. ou can also get 'pee posts' that are supposed to be impregnated with pheromones that encourage the dog to pee on them, but on Amazon, they only score 2/5. However, you could use something like that - a bright yellow plastic post - and train your dog to go near or on the post. The easiest way might be to teach him to pee on command (say the word every time he pees, till he makes the association), then encourage him to go near the post and use the word. Googling for something like 'train your dog to pee in one spot' will bring up a lot more guidance.
 
The storms have arrived, and I've just had a stressed shaking dog trying to climb in between me and my footstool, then in between my chair and table with the second monitor on, and into a 2' square corner already taken up by a shredder and other 'stuff'. It was never going to work, and just extricating himself again was going to be tricky with a dog who often has trouble with reverse gear...

But at least I could give him ear rubs, and the storm passed quickly - it didn't take him long to recover enough to take treats again, but this is Jasper!

On this morning's walk a spaniel rushed over to him, barking and snarking and showing her teeth:eek: He stood there, a bit worried and nonplussed, and she went off in the other direction. As the couple with her came alongside us, I realised that one was a trainer I'd met before explaining to the owner that this was purely fear aggression - which it was. The owner pointed out that this may be the case, but the other owners don't appreciate it! I resisted suggesting that maybe she shouldn't have been allowed out of her comfort zone in the first place... They were possibly lucky that the spaniel had picked on a non-aggressive (almost always) dog with non-aggressive (almost always) owners;)
