Iida the terrier's maternity diary

Perhaps she heard you say you were going to film the birth;)

@Flobo, I am very impressed with your IT skills:)
LOL...perhaps...I didn't think of that 'threat' I made:D

And yes...Flobo is getting rather handy with all the 'buttons' :D

If we think about it, dogs as predators would need to be able to run and jump well into pregnancy. So most don't really show until the last couple of weeks.

Hmm....I could really do 'refresher' watching some wild dog nature videos..
Trouble is....you never pick up these things at the time when they are not that relevant. But given now...I would hoover anything and everything useful! I might as well see what I can find in the internet!:emoji_bulb:
OOOOOOoohh....getting excited now...first lot of essential puppy related purchases have arrived! And next week starts work turning part of the kitchen into 'nursery' ;)

Oh wow! I thought it was only me who blew raspberries on a dogs tummy. Dainty has a lovely tummy (and she's not even pregnant), her eyes nearly pop out of her head when I do it to her:p.

Natural / nature can teach us a lot:), but we have domestic circumstances and this way everything is done a lot quicker for convenience;).
. Excited!

You should see how my ferrets react when I do it to them!:D:D:D Have to a bit careful though and go for side belly as they are all boys:eek::D:D:D

:D:D I think we have more raspberry blowers amongst us than we realise! I've always done it. If dog trust you to do that and seem to enjoy the attention as well AND you get to keep your nose intact....it is surely a big reward for the owner....and getting to have giggles while doing it! Best things are free!

You can add my husband to the list too:rolleyes: ( Dainty's tummy, not mine:eek: )
.

Well..we've had little development! Iida has visibly thickened her appearance over night...even OH's not so observant eyes noticed and unlike her, she was looking around something to eat. She had full on breakfast and there was no need for any appetizers to get over the morning queasy feelings...'HUNGRY' :D
So I reckon we've turned the corner now and things starting to visually speed up.
Luckily just last night we had delivery for some supplies to make puppy pen with...slowly it is all coming together...

Day 47...
Iida is finally visibly getting bigger and almost by the day. It is weird feeling when we hug to all of the sudden have so much more of her in my arms. She has now stopped feeling queasy and luckily her 'morning sickness' by literally throwing up have only happened twice. She has now bit more appetite but that doesn't mean all the funny eating habits are forgotten....oh no...it is still daily battle to see what is the flavour of the day, or even for each meal. But no more ginger bickies for this little madam...her sweet tooth will not be pampered when it is not necessary!
Because she is funny eater and I worry that she is not getting enough nutrients during this particularly demanding time, since she likes yogurt..I have started to add little puppy milk powder to her yogurt to give it teeny bit 'umf' and to sneak in few extra calories as she is still only eating her normal food amount in whole...little and more often to keep her tummy happy. ;)

One thing I have found that is not mentioned anywhere...not in book, nor in any websites. Little trivial information but something that would come handy for first time breeders like me.......once the bitch start ballooning, they cannot reach to their back end to clean their bottoms!!!! :D:rolleyes:
It might not be issue with all bitches...but my girl likes to keep herself clean and I noticed it bothered her as she couldn't do it anymore. So now I'm promoted to be a royal bottom wiper :D Normally she is not too keen that I interfere with her bottom region but now she is happy to stand still and even keep her tail up so I can perform my duties.
And then few photo to show the recent development in her appearance:

She is till able to get up to get better sniff and look at the newly arrived game that is so exciting for her....

I still got little bit of more rattle in my sleeve....

Until now Iida has been going to her normal daily walks into forest but we've not allowed her to enter into stream/puddles/pond since her mating. But now that she has slowed down, she only have her walks close to home and even then not that far anymore neither....her choice and we take everything very steady now. At home she is most of the time quite horizontal and finding all the really comfy places most acceptable....and if possible glued onto my side and having many gentle tummy rubs each day. Her little round mound feel so nice under my palm :D

We have now started to make the whelping/puppy area ready too....old shoe& coat area is being demolished and tomorrow made secure with new wall coverings and flooring...slowly getting there...it is good to have some 'help' too

...She ;) The 'helper' is our youngest one..Eva..she is now 16 months and real 'tom boy'....dad is fox terrier and mum is some sort scottie-lakie x type of mongrel. :D So yes....plenty of character and we call her our 'spirited one'.

Doh!:emoji_face_palm: So sorry:oops:..she looks really different to me side on like that!.. How's she coping with the pregnant Iida and all the excitement around her?

That's ok...I do not expect people to remember every pooch around here ;) Even without different photo angles her looks do tend to change as she is growing and sheading her coat.
Oh Eva is fine....because Iida is not demanding for the attention and they've both learned when is each of their turn for being no1 so there is no real competition. Iida likes to cuddle and Eva little less so, she is all about toys and playing, Iida is hunter and defend the garden when Eva does alerts in the house and follow other one's lead outside... so we've got all sorted. When/if we get 3rd dog into the pack, that will be another learning curve to see what role new one will fit into and how the girls will settle in. It will be fine.....;)

Are you planning to keep one of the pups, Finsky?
