Next one of her bum!!
This looks JUST like the cat-flea allergy I mentioned. When the poor old cat passd on, the baldy whippet regained a perfect coat. Nothing to do with food, no ointments etc would work. Try checking this out, perhaps?

Cheers,

Belle :))

No fleas here. However, if your dog had fleas it would also have tapeworm, which would contribute to the dryness of coat.

Lida

Hmmm, something to think about there. I have no cats but there are loads in our area and they all seem to come and poo in my garden

The dogs have had fleas a few times but I de-flea them with stronghold (i think thats what its called) every three months. Is that enough? They seem to pick them up from the fields they run in. There are lots of foxes round here, which also poo in my garden

What would be the symptoms of tapeworm? I read it looks like grains of rice in their poo? Her skin doesn't appear to be dry and she doesn't scratch.

She's off for her booster jabs tomorrow so I may quiz the vet a bit.

White segments in a poo are a sign of a tapeworm infestation in advanced stage. Modern worming products kill the worms before this. I have not seen these white segments for many years now - 20 plus?

As long as they are properly wormed they should be OK, but if you see fleas, then they have tapeworm.

I am pretty sure her tummy sores are an alergy eaction to grass or other plant.

Hi all,
I'd like a bit of advice from all you whippet owners on how to improve the condition of my dogs coats. I know its something wrong with the way I feed them but I cant figure out what.

They get Natures menu and Red Mills (tracker) or Bakers for breakfast and raw tripe or beef and tripe for tea.

As extras they get pigs ears, tripe sticks or those dog sausages from Pets at Home (which they love!!!).

Once or twice a week they get a tin of mackeral, sardines or tuna.

Anyway, problem is, their fur keeps dropping out. Not badly with Lenny, but Molly has bald patches. It seems to have got worse since we had Molly spayed and I've read there could be a link? If so will a better diet/supplements improve this?

I've been looking on the Dorwest(?) website but am a bit baffled to be honest, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Jez

most skin problems are most commonly 1 of 4 things....

1 enviroment allergies

2 food allergies

3 parasites

4 usually though it is from are a poor quality diet...most low protein waste etc... products from dog foods are secreted through the the skin causing a dry scurfy coat ...most people think it is lack of oil which in most cases it is not

hope this helps

p.s solution to 2 and 4 is to feed a natural diet!
