:p :p OLO If you put a cornish accent on it would sound more " I'll Be These ", but a good bath is frequatly needed :clown:

or  blahblahblah in your affix

where blahblahblah denotes the KC registered name (which could well include the affix of the breeder you are purchasing from)

I don't know if I'm making myself clear, or if I'm just making an idiot of myself  :b but I suppose I just need to know if there are only set words you could use like at and for or whether you have a bit of dicretion  :- "

It is pronounced "Beau ........ bezi", so many people ask me that, and funny enough it was my first choice :- "
 
I am fascinated by Arthurian legend and hence our names over the decades.

Here in Canada I applied first for Tintagel because of its Arthurian links and because it is a captivating place to visit as I am sure any of you who have been there have discovered. But someone apparently had it already though it was (and still is) inactive. But it was permanently registered so I couldn't have it. My second choice was obvious then, Glastonbury, again for the Arthurian link. I adopted it in the early 1980s. However I only bred a couple of litters using it before my son, with whom I am partners, raised the possiblity of our adopting a single affix for our dogs. He wasn't thrilled with Glastonbury (he has never visited the Abbey), and suggested we get a more Canadian name, but I was not willing to let the Arthurian legend go easily. We solved our problem by adopting Avalonia -- which by wonderful coincidence reflects the area in Canada where I spent my first five years as a Canadian -- the Avalon peninsula of Newfoundland -- and which also happens to be another name for Arthur's kingdom. It was serendipity! :D We have bred over two dozen litters under the Avalonia affix and have proudly seen our kennel name travel world wide.

For those looking to acquire their own kennel names, some advice.

We have found it copacetic to have a kennel name that is easy on the ear, easy to remember because it is uncomplicated because it is a familiar sounding name, and easy to find in any list of whippet kennels or by googling on the world wide web because it starts with the letter A, is at the very start of the alphabet and hence, very easily and quickly accessible in any search. Having a kennel name that starts with a W or some letter late in the alphabet must be the pits!

"copacetic" - I had to look that one up!

Anyway, now the cat is out of the bag, and you will have loads of whippet kennels starting with the letter A :oops:

I believe the Swedish kennel Aaniston has got it about right... I think if I were planning on breeding, I would probably apply for " AA whippets..." :D
 
Mine are all 'at oakmoorehill' although I only add it on to the bitches names

:wub: Mine was born out of true love! It is simply the name of Pedro's birthplace in Belguim and where we first met. Did think about applying for King's Erotica as that was the name of the cafe where the first meeting took place, but didn't think the KC would go for that as they'd probably think it was pornograhic or something.

(w00t) It replaced a previous one I'd had when married to hubby number one, which was Mauden and used more when I bred and showed Cavaliers.

Mychaka originated from my first Dobermann, Chaka (after Chaka Zulu) this dog was very special to me and was my constant shadow and protector. Whenever I spoke of him and even today, I always say My Chaka so hence my prefix. He lives on through it - I feel it's appropriate for the Whippets as well because he was such a faithful companion. :wub:

Shenace came from my 2 foundation bitches Shenae and Lacey

Shenae made my mouth water, she was a talented dog who would bark & fart while you scratched her croup & when our 2nd daughter was born, I wanted to call her Shenae - my husband was not impressed :- "

However, I got close, child number 2 is called Renae, all my dogs have nicknames & Renae has the exact same one Shenae had except it starts with a R instead of a S (w00t) (w00t)
 
Wildfern - Comes from my first 2 ML Dachies who aslo produced my first litter

Dane = Ch Aranlea Wild Fire & Cilla= Aranlea Silver Fern

My first litter the bitch I kept was Chloe= Wildfern First Edition

Awwwwwwwww, that's lovely.

I knew a lady (sadly no longer with us) who bred Pointers whose affix was My Tom (originally) because her first dog was called Tom and she always referred to him as 'My Tom'. Then, for some reason only known to themselves, the Kennel Club decided you could only have one word as an affix so she tried for Mytom and they wouldn't accept it!!! Typical KC, so she settled on Exmytom.
 
My affix Dusilla consist of three syllables:

comes form 'dual purpose'. Even though I'm more interested in showing I do like whippets to have the ability and the will to run - not necessarily very fast but to have in them that that they love running. If I may brag here a little, my family (my sister to be more precise) bred the first ever dual champion whippet in Finland: Fin Ch & Fin Racing Ch Black Pearl's Stardust whose one brother was also dual champion Fin Ch & Fin Racing Ch Black Pearl's Shaft, and the third dog in the litter Black Pearl's Sootysean had 2 CCs and some qualifying times for the Racing Ch. title.

comes from my first whippet Silve (Ch. Black Pearl's Silversatin). She was a real sweetheart :wub: and a nice show dog, too - she was e.g. a Group Winner with a BIS-3rd placement.

well, this comes from my name, Laila :b .

So these syllables form the affix Dusilla :) . The name isn't e.g. a misspelled Drusilla or named after the river Düssel (Dusilla in Latin) that runs through Düsseldorf (w00t) .

Found this thread & as I wasn't even online at the time let alone being a K9 member, I thought I would bring it up the list.

Tormor was my first choice and I have a few different reasons for having it.

-The meaning behind it is Glastonbury Tor overlooks The Moor ( I was born & lived for my first 6 years, 4 miles from Glastonbury).

-Our pedigree British White & Dairy Shorthorn Cattle had the Same prefix.

-Finally my mother was going to have this prefix many years ago but never got around to contacting KC.

Right I chose my affix Starstrike as all of my lot race with Strike in their racing names because Jacob's racing name is Second Strike as he was my 2nd Whippet, so a 2nd chance/strike of having a decent racer :b .......So when I bred my first litter from my Inca who races at Stars And Strike, I applied on line to the K/C but the computer crashed and then it wasn't accepted .......Sooooo I registered all of the pups with Strike in their K/C names and kept the 2 Starstrike pups for myself ...... The K/C registered them so when I bred from Inca again I did the same (w00t) ......I then decided to try to buy Starstrike again and it was excepted :wacko: .....
 
The affix for my beagles in the 1960's was CALYDON. I was working for the British Trawlers Federation at the time and one of the Hull Trawlers was the Calydon. I never kept the affix though and have now seen it registerd as a whippet affix.

My first Affix was Therpan it belonged to a friend her first dogs name was Panther then we co-owned it and after she remarried it became mine. -_- -_- But I forgot to pay for it and lost it. this was a good thing because now I have one that means something to me (and the Hubie). My affix is now Zigouse after my first and favorite two Whippets Zig Zag and Mouse :huggles: :huggles:
 
whippets were the first breed i had all to myself. the chows, labradors and ESS's in our family have always been primarily other family members, so i wanted an affix that was bold and a bit different and gave me separation from the more "fluffy" granny affix's :oops: (sorry nan)

I wanted something that would stand out but still be fitting for a sighthound.

after a lot of um'ing and er'ing i came up with Keenbreeze, Keeneye and Niisyf

i came up with Niisyf as an acronym of "Not If i See You First" the use of an acronym was inspired partly by a horse called Jafeica "Just Another F'' Expence I Can't Afford" ....it appealed to my sense of humour at the time :- "

Keenbreeze was from my nan's ponies, Keen and and her son Breeze, i loved them as a little un and was always sneaking off to ride them in the field, this then morphed to Keeneye for the sight link (i was struggling for names :b )

thankfully i got my first choice of Niisyf

and from then onwards have been known as becka and the unpronouncable whippets :lol:
