Hi
Last May there were acouple of whippies who suffered spinal disc injuries. One of them,my dog Rocket, had to have a disc removed and was paralysed from the waist down for two months and thereafter improved but will never be his former self but has a good quality of life.
I relate this as it...

So sad to learn about Rose, a dreadful decision you had to make but I know you made the right one. When a dog starts suffering or their quality of life becomes impaired..........
Strange to say but Rocket (Roses' son) was acting very strange and unsettled last week about the 11th...
Two years ago got this fleece lined Dayglo jacket from:
http://www.nationalwhippetassoc.uk.com/tra...nture_coat.html.
When walking down unlit country lanes its' essential and really lights up well even with distant car headlights.
I've just ordered another one for my black whip.
Amazed in the difference in Rocket in just 3 weeks! Hope he carries on progressing like he is!

Yes, he is making good progress. He's asking all the time to play frisbee which I know is a risk but he enjoys it sooo much and it builds up his muscles, improves...
Hey! Lets keep this thread going. I, too, love dog and cat pics! There must be more of you out there that have whips and cats living in harmony.
Just to make Mark Roberts cringe, here is a pic two of his Parkstones, Rocket and Bandit with Norwegian Forest cat Codi. This cat is not fazed by any...
Our two whips and three cats all get on well but our 4 year old[ dog, Rocket, and Codi the cat have been firm friends since he was a puppy and the cat was 2 years old.
I think it depends upon how much puppy playfulness the cat can take!attachmentid=19642]
Hi Scott, he's started to lollop after his favourite frisbee which will improve his muscles in his back and legs but we do worry that he may try too hard and damage his back again. However we can't keep him "wrapped in cotton wool" for ever!
Hope to see you and Jo at Coppull this Sunday.
My dog, Rocket, has suffered spinal trauma and his waist, hip and rear leg muscles became wasted whilst he slowly regained control of his lower body.
To build up these muscles we take him to a canine hydrotherapy pool once a week and the improvement after each session is immediately apparant...
Thanks to everyone who made us feel so welcome at Coppull on Sunday, it's great talking to other whippet people! :p
Although Rocket is resting in the pics that Scott took, he had done a fair amount of walking around and slept soundly on the way back as did Bandit who loved his practice runs...
We're all looking forward to meeting some of the really nice people who have given us, and Diesels' owners, so much hope and encouragement over the past months. :D
Dig, Pam, Clare and ROCKET
Thought that the attitude of these 'friends' would get a shocked response from you dog people!
Scott, we didn't need to tell them tp $&%@ off - we havn't seen them since Rockets' accident. My daughter only got to know them recently as they have horses, anyway we can do without knowing people...
Rocket is improving but slowly, sometimes the only way we can tell is by comparing his achievements with what we have written in a diary we have been keeping. However he is walking with more of 'whippet' back and less of a shamble and his rear paws are not 'knuckling' any longer but we know now...

We took Rocket for his first hydrotherapy session last week. Not surprisingly he got quite tired after a few lengths of the pool but it did wonders for him, the day after he was able to transfer more weight onto his hindquarters and co-ordinate his leg movements better. We were even able...
Looking at the second photo who would have believed the trauma Diesel has been through. We're all so pleased for you all, please give him (the dog that is!) a biscuit from us.

Rocket has now been home for 5 days and is making even more progress here, he can now wobble round the house or garden for 10 meters at a time and we are re-teaching him how to sit, stand and walk without going cock-eyed. The physio visited him yesterday and said he was doing so well that she...
Hi Scott
Last Sunday saw a great improvement, he can now walk on 3 1/2 legs (I say a 'half' because that leg is not very co-ordinated), The vet's so pleased with this improvement that he wants us to take him home this Friday so that he will benefit with being in his own surroundings. Luckily...
Just been to see Rocket and he is now able to stand on all fours for a minute or so , the orthopaedic surgeon is now more optimistic about his slow progress but he won’t be home until he can walk however slightly and that not be for a week or so yet (provided he continues with his present rate...

At times like this you tend to forget other members of the family. 6 month old Bandit is another SUPERB dog from Parkstone, a fastidious animal however he has disgraced himself this afternoon by rolling in some fox sh?t! He really misses Rocket and sniffs at his empty crate every night as...
Scott, He's from Saxon Blade x Parkstone Sweet Harmony (Rose). Last night his tail DEFINATELY wagged but all his muscles in his lower back have shrunk alarmingly but I think he is getting some sensation back into his rear legs at last!
Hope Diesel is continuing on his deserved road to recovery...
