Puppy crying and jumping in crate

You say he's 6 months old. Can I ask how long you have had him for? Most puppies are bought at 8 weeks. So i'm assuming you have either not used a crate since you got him and just now decided to use one? Or you have just bought him? What made you decide to use a crate? As you haven't used a...

Reinforcing barking and/or barking to go out to toilet

My mum has started using a water pistol recently. Doesn't hurt him. She just threatens to squirt him when he barks and he instantly stops. May sound cruel to some but it has worked wonders. She's only actually squirted him once. I agree with the quiet time and giving him attention. Also make a...

    All red berries poisonous?

Ok thanks. Yes I did pick her up and walk past it today. I just worry because it is difficult to stop her from eating things and she wont drop it when I tell her. She's so small and not properly trained yet. Better to be safe. She also likes to eat grass, sticks, stones and anything else that we...

    Barking at young child

It may be a bit of jealousy as well. It's obviously very new to him. When you were down on the floor giving him a treat and then your daughter walks in, also possessiveness over his treat.

Puppy freaked out by other dogs then 'attacks' me!

I'm also having difficulty with a scared puppy that I sit for several times a week. I am trying to introduce her to dogs slowly. Have started taking him to the beach and going up to dogs slowly. If she gets scared, stroking her and talk to her calmly. I then pick her up if she's in a state. But...

    All red berries poisonous?

There's a road I go down with a puppy I've started walking. Outside one particular house its often covered in red berries from a tree in their garden. It is particularly hard to get puppies not to eat things. Would it be deathly if they did eat it?

Reinforcing barking and/or barking to go out to toilet

I think someone said 5 minutes per month of age. Though i don't think this is a regimented rule. I look after a 8 month old puppy. He's a spaniel but runs like a greyhound the moment he gets on the beach. He can go miles. Loads of energy. You seem to be a very dedicated owner. My dog also barks...

    Outside dog

I am a dog walker and sitter. I have started walking a dog this week. He's gorgeous. Very well behaved, very loving. Rather large. His owner says that he is an 'outside dog'. He spends the whole day outside. He has his food and water outside. He has a little hut. That I assume he rests in. I am...

Have you used any dog walkers near great yarmouth?

Yes vets or the dog groomers, pet shops. I'm a dog walker/sitter, live in Swansea though. But I have advertised in those places. I am lucky enough to have a dog groomers at the bottom of my road that I take Bailey too. Our family cavachon. And she has been fantastic and recommending my services...

    Dog humping while out

Thank you all. Has made me feel a bit better. I guess it's something I need to deal with being a dog sitter. And I guess dog humping is a bit different to human sex. Not as many emotions or feeling involved I'm guessing

    Dog humping while out

I just wanted to know what you do when a random dog tries to hump yours on the beach? I've been dog sitting this weekend. Girl dogs both been spayed. One boy dog all of sudden started humping one of them. While I struggled to get him off her. Both quite big dogs. The owner of the boy dog just...

Is a dog right for us

I have recently started as a dog sitter. I charge £20 a day, which I think is about average. I also have a puppy that I pop in and see twice a day for 3/4 hr at a time and she pays me £25 (which I think is a bit more than what most people would give, but she said she would rather pay more to...

Taking your puppy out at the start

Thanks for all your advice. As I only see her twice a day as a dog sitter, maybe not appropriate for me to take her to a puppy class. But I suppose I could ask the owner if she is planning to go to one. I'm going to introduce her to my dog on Monday. On her driveway. I took her for a walk...

Taking your puppy out at the start

Hello, As I have mentioned in previous posts, I look after a puppy twice a day while the owner is at work (still doing it :) ) Its actually going well. I am getting used to her little routines. It's a few weeks on now and she is now being transitioned from puppy food to junior food. Though...

    Dog boarding

I would be interested in what findings you get if you don't mind sharing? I have just started boarding dogs in my own home, so could do with some tips :)

Labradoodle pup chewing empty toilet rolls?

Yes part and parcel of puppy life :) a bag of plastics has always been Bailey's favourite. And now I'm starting dog sitting. I definitely need to know as many games and tricks as possible to keep them entertained.

    Dog sitting - average cost?

Thanks. I pick him up at 8.30 and bring him back at 4.30, 8 hours. It would be £40 at £5 a day. But I think that is too much. The average cost for day care appears to be £15/£20 but most of these are kennel type boarding not one to one.

    Dog sitting - average cost?

Wanted advice on how much to charge daily for looking after a 8 month old puppy? I said £20 a day, originally when it was only going to be 2 days a week. But now its gone up to 4 days. I think I might be selling myself a bit short. Do you think it would be unreasonable to ask for £25 a day?

    Training mats

I also think a harness is better for puppies. Being a dog walker I am currently taking a 7 month old spaniel out who has a harness and also popping in to take a 9/10 week old puppy out (in the garden as not able to go out properly yet), who has a collar. I do find it a lot easier pulling the...
