Puppy crying and jumping in crate

Hi ! I have a six month old shih Tzu. We got a crate 2 weeks back . For few days I made him comfortable with the crate and for 2 days he was fine sleeping in the crate nearby my bed. But since last few days and soon as I close the door of the crate he starts crying and jumping in the crate as if trying to open it. I don't want to hurt himself if I leave him alone . What should I do?

You say he's 6 months old. Can I ask how long you have had him for? Most puppies are bought at 8 weeks. So i'm assuming you have either not used a crate since you got him and just now decided to use one? Or you have just bought him? What made you decide to use a crate?

As you haven't used a crate with him since he was a baby, I think it will take time to adjust to a new arrangement. But with perseverance and reassurance i'm sure he will. Are you doing anything new? were you shutting the door of the crate before?
