Labradoodle pup chewing empty toilet rolls?

I recently got a labradoodle pup, she is almost 3 months old and something I have noticed is that she will go into the bathroom and grab empty toilet rolls say if someone left them on the floor and she will bring them back into the room and play with them/rip them apart. I think she is starting teething and is chewing anything she can get her teeth on lol (the carpet on the stairs for example - how do we stop this because she is ripping it completely off on the bottom stair?)

Anyway, there was an empty toilet roll this morning when I went to the bathroom and decided to just give it to her rather than throw away. Right now she is having a field day with it. Is this okay?? She doesn't seem to ingest it, just rip it up. I have plenty of chew toys for her, meat flavored as well, but puppies are puppies... what do you think, chewing an empty toilet roll ok?

Thanks!

Lots of dogs enjoy ripping up cardboard, in fact many people make up boxes with shredded paper and hide treats in them to amuse the dog. Just watch she doesn't eat the cardboard.

Puppies love cardboard (something they can have and destroy without getting into trouble) and it's FREE!. They also get a lot of pleasure from the empty plastic milk bottles which are easy to replace on a regular basis, (caps removed)

Puppies don't usually start teething until they are a bit older, 12 weeks is very young for teeth to start changing, I usually notice teething starts at about 16 weeks with the small front teeth (top and bottom) falling out first.

Chewing things like toilet rolls is usually fine. Do be aware that it can become an obsession. You might not want her doing it for the rest of her life.

If you take control of them, as you have done, and give them to her she may not learn to keep stealing them :)

A tip for her toys. Get three boxes and divide her toys between them. Put two boxes away and let her have access to the toys in the remaining box. Each day gather up the "used" toys and put them away while letting her have one of the other boxes of toys to play with. Repeat each day on a rotation.

Yes part and parcel of puppy life :) a bag of plastics has always been Bailey's favourite. And now I'm starting dog sitting. I definitely need to know as many games and tricks as possible to keep them entertained.

Have you seen Kikopup on YouTube for trick training ideas? But do ask the dog's owners first, they may not want him/her trained in tricks.

Thank you all!!! I have taken all your advice into consideration and I tried the cardboard/newspaper idea and it went down like a treat!!! Do it once a day now and helps keep her entertained.

As a family we do not drink milk so empty plastic milk bottles are out... anything else I could give her to chew on? The other day I fell asleep on my bed and she was there, and I forgot I had a banana next to me. Well when I woke she had chewed all the way through the skin to the banana inside. She didn't eat the skin so this morning I gave her an empty banana skin to chew on and she enjoyed it but didn't eat it. Do you think this is okay?? Any other ideas like that???

Empty plastic water bottles are fine. Not sure about banana skins to be honest. What about carrots? They are great and can be given frozen too. They are more satisfying to gnaw on when frozen and the cold soothes the mouth too.

Oh yeah good idea! She doesn't like carrots lol, tried, although that was a cooked carrot. I will try with raw and frozen carrots.

An empty milk bottle was just a plastic suggestion (just thought most people would have them) !

As mentioned any plastic bottle will do, our puppies just love them!.

Our lot love ripe bananas to eat but I don't think they would like the skins.

Carrots either fresh or frozen are good, doesn't matter weather they eat them or not.

We have recently been given some large dry fir cones, the dogs enjoy the challenge they get from these.

My dog loves ice cubes. I used to give them to her quite often when she was little and teething.

Still no luck on the carrots - she has a sweet tooth like me haha. I gave her an apple and she really enjoyed that, but vomited up her breakfast this morning after munching on it - so not sure if she's had too much.

I also tried the plastic water bottle thing - it fascinates her endlessly!!! Her favorite new toy lol

Ice cubs will definitely be another to try :)

Apple pips are not good for dogs. I think they contain arsenic?

Yes they do Gypsysmum. One apple wouldn't be enough to do any harm but hayleymayonline, please de-core them next time!

Yes, my vet once said that the amount of pips in an apple core and therefore arsenic present, is so minute that you would probably need a bucket full of pips alone, to do any harm!

Mine always get apple cores or even whole wrinkly over ripe apples when available. But if you are truly worried just remove the pips first.

Don't worry she had not reached the core. Actually it happened again that it was originally meant to be my apple, I left it out on the side, and when I came back there were her teeth marks in it!!! (w00t) So I just gave it to her lol. Picked it up before she even got through half of it
