... you find the perfect mother-of-the-groom dress (slinky red lace, a little bit of Jessica Rabbit going on...) and start thinking about accessories. Matching handbag? Nah, OH can carry my hanky and lippy. Buuuut... considering the logistics of having Jasper with us 100% of the time, taking it in turns to take him for a de-stress round the grounds... I now need a fancy, blingy, coordinating bag for poo bags and dog treats

It was about 6 weeks before we got married that someone asked what our invitations were like. Erm - you know how there's always something you forget? And that was back in the '80s when you couldn't just make up something with a PC and printer. Luckily I worked opposite a very understanding printer's business.

One of my cousins always said if she got married it would be without any fuss. After she and her boyfriend had been living together for around 4 years, she invited her parents. his parents and her sister for lunch on a Saturday. Neither set of parents knew the others were going, anyway on the Friday, after the shops had shut, she rang them and said just letting you know put your best dress on 'cause they were getting married at 12 the day after.

Biker John, DS2 and GF had said originally that they were going to have a simple wedding that didn't cost too much - not a proper wedding dress but one that GF would be able to wear in the future, no official photographer, flowers, etc. But there seems to be a bad case of mission creep....

My daughter and her now husband didnt Want fuss but she did want her dad to give her away, and that had to happen before he got too sick so last year we arranged a 1960s themed wedding in my garden. I made the cake and the food. I also took all the photos. She got her dress from lindy bop a white tea length lace over satin dress £ 16...-
My son performed the ceremony my granddaughter was bridesmaid and my OH. grinned from ear to ear as he walked her out ..In total there were just 25 of us here..

The whole thing cost about £500 ..
It was fantastic...

I wish DS2 and GF had taken the same approach, Mad Murphy! It all started to get expensive when DS2 set his heart on booking an entire venue from the Friday to the Sunday so there'd be plenty of time for everyone to relax and enjoy themselves, and for the two families to mingle. It really will be - hopefully - like a mini-holiday! I can undertand this - OH and I ended up having a 2-day wedding, but just because we had to book the reception venue weeks before we could book the registry office... I turned up on the first day I could book the registry office, before it had opened, to find there were five people in front of me. They could only do five weddings a day.....

We ended up getting married on the Friday with just close family & friends, back to our house for a bit of a buffet, evening meal out, then the next day we had the 'proper' reception and a disco in the evening. In retrospect, I wouldn't have done it differently!
