Willow Is Home

glad she is on the road to recovery - she must be looking and feeling much better now :luck:

I had discussed with the vet beforehand about removing the shoulder since it seems to have a better recovery rate and less problems with sores etc later on. Tbh, it seemed to fall on deaf ears he half listened to what I had to say and then just said that it was all the same recovery rate cos the limb was being removed be it further up or lower down. (This is the same vet that didn't listen to my conserns that the exteranl fixators wouldn't work since little to no healing had taken place after her previous op on the leg.)

There are 4 vets in the practice in total. One has been there forever and is wonderful, practices homeopathy and will take on board your opinions. Another one is really good, takes time to explain things and listen to my views etc and Wills loves him. There is another girl that I haven't really had much dealings with then there is the guy who has done the ops. Don't get me wrong, he has done alot for Wills and was upset when the fixators didn't work; but I feel my opion isn't heard with him. Yes, he's more qualified than me, but at least take time to listen! Perhaps it is because Willow spent alot of time living at the surgery before I got her and he hasn't made the adjustment to her being MY dog now?

Anyway. Willow is doing really well. We go for two 10 min walks a day now. She has been scratching away at the drains and stitches yesterday, so I will be glad to get them out tomorrow. I might ring the vets to see if they can be taken out today before she does herself some damage.

She is alot brighter in herself and has really settled down into family life here. I was just lying in bed last night thinking, my goodness, this is the first week that I've had her that didn't involve and operation!!

I'm so proud of her and how she's handled all she has been through. :wub: I do wonder who used to own her, if they will ever see her out and about and see what a beautiful girl she has become.

I don't know her original story, but it sounds like she's in the best place now. :thumbsup:
 
I've seen many dogs getting around quite well on three legs

I'm sorry I missed the earlier discussion, don't know what happened to her and why her leg needed the amputation. Maybe someone could direct me to the relevant thread?
 
My goodness, that poor little dog has been through so much - and so have you by the sound of it. She's a very lucky dog to have found someone to take her on and stick with her through all this.

Let's hope it's all 'up' from now. :flowers: :flowers:
 
bless you both. :huggles: youve really been through the mill in these last few months :( hopefully the worst is behind her now and she will only get better and better now.just out of curiosity has it cost you a lot of money with all these ops and vets bills? :sweating: you took a lot on when you gave this little one a home.

Since she was a stray that I took on from the vets care they are trying to find help toward the funding of the operations..... so I am still awaiting the final bill. :unsure: Fingers crossed it ain't too high!!!

If she had been handed in to the local pound instead of the vet she would have got PTS straight away. Thankfully it was the vets that she arrived at. they have done alot for us, for which I'm eternally grateful. We have a wonderful dog which my kids adore and I can only be inspired by how she overcomes her problems and still loves life. I couldn't be without her!! :D
