What Food Are You Feeding ?

I don't cook for mine - instead I feed her nature diet mixed with harringtons biscuits. All free from preservatives etc etc. Seems to last well and doesn't cost too much and she's happy on it! Took her to the vet for her booster and the vet said she was doing really well so hopefully it'll keep working out :)
How can a packet of meat and veg sit on shelf (no refrigeration) for weeks without going off be free from preservatives??

mine get rabbit venison pheasant in winter time summer raw meat and a biscuit does them well

Ours have mince from the butchers, cooked: Cooked chicken taken off the bone and chopped: once or twice a week scrambled eggs: sometimes pilchards: all these mixed with chopped and boiled vegetables, porridge in he morning and pasta at night. They also have small colour and preservative-free biscuits (Co-op) as a treat between meals. I do not feed rice now as it appears that Eric has an intolerance. He has had several bouts of severe gut problems - we almost lost him at New Year - but since making sure that he has no rice whatsoever he has been fine. I keep a few tins of Butchers Tripe for the girls, just in case I am unable to cook one day.

It amazes me the number of dogs that cannot tolerate rice. Albus used to be exactly the same. If he ate rice it came out the other end exactly as it went in. If he was suffering with his stomach problems I used to cook flaked rice and that worked a treat. He even had a problem if rice was an ingredient in any dried food.

like masta says horses for courses, i did feed bones then a m8 lost a dog so freaked me out a bit so dont do it now, the benefits are there but so is the danger,

I feed my girls raw meat and bones ...... even the Chihuahua ..... although she only gets the small ones

My 4-month old is eating Burns (which is apparently for 6 month+). However he seems to get a dodgy stomach with the puppy version. Will he be alright on the adult stuff? I also thought about supplementing it with some sardines etc.

tga ive been feeding sardines in tommy sauce with my dogs all there life and they are sound as long a you dont go overboard plus if your dog has allready got a dodgy tummy then watch the sardines for now.

Fish4Dogs do a sardine based dry food which you purchase direct from their website. I have used all of their dried food but my boys particularly liked their sardine variety. I am sure they would send you some samples if you asked.

Okay. After reading this thread, I'm not sure if I'm giving my whippets the best diet. I feed them Scrambled egg in the morning, sometimes mixed with porridge, or just porridge on its own( if Ive baked a cake that week and used alll the eggs :> ), Lunch 1/2 a tin of Butchers tripe mixed with FishMongers white fish and potato, Evening = meat, usually tinned fish (pichards, sardins, salmon), mixed with rice spuds or pasta, I never feed them vegetables :> .. I give them carrots to chew once a week sometimes more, plenty of bones to chew too. And cooked liver as little treats .. Money is a bit tight, cant afford mince and chicken etc everyday. When we have the spare cash we do treat them to more raw,Does it sound Okay, am I bad??? ..

You will get all sorts of advice but i only feed my dogs once a day and a lot less carb there is no benefit to porridge and scrambled egg you have to set your head to dog diet not human I get dog mince for 35p a pound and chicken for the same by the way your not bad but your making a simple job hard google barf suppliers most deliver

I feed two Duck wings for breakfast, or Chicken wings, fed these since he was 12 weeks never had a problem.

main meal a hand full of biscuit, mixed with raw carrot and spinach, with a pound of raw Chicken and tripe, or Beef and tripe.from Durham Animal feeds, delivered in boxes of 20 pound packs.

and cooked Rabbit when the Ferreting season starts.

I feed weetabix for breakfast a good buscuit for dinner and plenty of red meat.

For me bones are a must, dogs love them, it keeps them busy and entertained and nothing is better for their teeth. Lamb ribs or chicken wings mostly. I am lucky as plenty of rabbiters round here and a whole raw rabbit will keep mine busy and just £2.

Chicken wings are great for pups.

I feed mine a couple of handfulls of Futures wheat free biscuit once a day with a topping of ham, fried liver, sardines or tuna, Scruples Whippet rescue recommended it.... In the morning they have a little something, eggs usually from the hens, and at night a bowl of full cream milk which they love.

hehe cant give mine milk as they pee forever lol
Oh no! Mine are ok like that thank goodness, none of us likes getting up in the dark, my retirement treat is getting up when it gets light, and the dogs are the same bless them!
