Hi all,
Watson had since he was a puppy had allergies not only food related but also contact allergies in summer.
It was never as bad as it is now! Red and itchy paws.... I did start him on piriton but it didn’t help! Not one bit!
I went to the vet and he gave him an injection ( can’t remember the name of it) and it helped loads but Watson stoped his paw licking completely.
What do I do? Any advice?

Go back to the vet and have it again?

Can you not get a vet appointment earlier? It can't be nice for him.

Apart from that, you could try walking him on surfaces he's less likely to be allergic to, and also bathing his feet as soon as you get in from a walk. Something like a few drops of lavender oil in the water might help, but do some careful research first as whatever you put on, he may very well lick off - essential oils can be harmful if ingested.

Or he could wear boots on walks.

If there's a possibility he reacts to something inside the house too, then vacuum/clean floors very regularly.

Thanks! We do wash his feet. It’s definitely an outdoor problem... yes I might look into boots for him :(

Well some dogs have a grass pollen allergy which will be really bad right now. Washing, boots, another steroid injection...? All of them I guess if it's making him miserable.

Just out of interest, what type of food are you feeding him?

He gets grain free Simpsons sensitive chicken dry food in the morning and Simpsons organic chicken wet in the evening! He gets chicken for other health problems.

It definitely is. :( The injection beginning of the month was not a steroid injection it was rather a antihistamine. Stronger and works in different way than piriton.

Yes, be sure to go back to the vets. I was seeing something regarding Atopic Dermatitis in dogs a while back, maybe you could have a read around it. Hope Watson gets better soon

Thank you all for your warm welcoming messages! And thanks for the advice on itchy Watson!
The last two days (despite the hot weather and not walking any different route) he is fine and not licking... keep your fingers crossed!

when I had my sunshine, I tried CBD oil for her fur and skin because of the flicks that she can't resist until her skin had rashes and my friend told me that I can try CBD oil for sunshine.

Hi folks,
Thank you all so much for all your advice! We have managed Watson’s allergies now! As the rain set in and the temperatures dropped he is back to his usual crazy self ;) we used CSJ skinny spray for each walk and the skinny dip shampoo to wash his feet after walks. I also went to the groomer to get the hair round his feet cut shorter so I could spot any raw spots better. If there were any raw patches I applied steroid cream locally.
In fact everything worked so well that I could spare Watson the second injection.
Again thanks for all your help!
Have a great day!
