Very controversial topic this.......I think you need to feed whatever suits your dog,you & your pocket!! Most likely in that order too!
We feed and have done for the past 12 years or so Eukanuba,we previously have tried ALL diets & all brands but found this one to be the best for our dogs and as the saying goes...if it aint broke why fix it!

It's not controversial - it's very interesting - no one is pressurizing anyone to change...or post on it if they don't want to :- "

Oh for goodness sake!! I did'nt mean that...I meant that it is controversial in the sense that everyone has their own ideas and anything involving people's opinions can be classed as controversial and that does not mean that anyone would pressurize anyone else, but surely we should all still be able to post?

This forum is getting to the stage where you cannot post anything without people taking it out of context!! :(

That's okay...I did'nt mean to "jump" back at you like that :b ,but it just seems to me that recently a lot of seemingly innocent comments are getting over-reacted on & it is extremely difficult to voice ones opinion without having to "pussyfoot" about and walk on eggshells in order to avoid upsetting anyone & everyone. Writing on the pc is quite hard as it is nigh on impossible to get tone of voice & emotions across and therefore we run the risk of being interpreted totally differently from how we tried to come across..if you catch my drift. :D

Could do with a punch up room, you know summat like chit chat, where we could go to and verbally thrash one another, or better still hire a field and lets all get stuck in, ive still got 2 descending testicles eh

Great topic :D ......Right my 2 old collie and collie x are on beta senior with the odd chicken wing and table scraps (their teeth are perfect :D )

My Whippets are on chicken wings, marrow bones or pro-plan for breakfast and we've gone back to meat, fish, veg, pasta and natures menu mixer (which I've just found and they all love it) for tea ......Some of the oldies or racers have a few supplement's for joints etc ....

Oh Dear  - I've run out of chicken wings - I didn't know it would we quite such a big deal that it is (w00t) !

Reproachful looks :( .........whining  ..........refusing to eat anything else :( ............even her normal tea....because its breakfast time and I HAVE CHICKEN WINGS FOR BREAKFAST    !

Can someone explain the difference between barf and raw please?
BARF is raw meat with veggies and grains.

RAW is the way of feeding a carnivore would eat in the wild : whole chickens, whole rabbit, lamb ribs not cut apart etc.

no veggies, no grains (or at least not as in BARF)

for example, I buy whole chickens and cut them in half for my whippets. I ask my butcher not to separate the lamb ribs, but leave them attached with fat and all.

OMG! (w00t) you ran out of chikkie wings!!!!!!

That is a capital offence in my house!

Both of my boys have chikkie wings for brekkie - they are big lads and have 2-3 each.

Small digression coming....

Both lads have to SIT and WAIT while the wings of chikkie are put out for them (always in the garden) til they are told GO ON THEN. Usually they pick a pile each and get stuck in. Bloggs is a very quick eater and Digit very slow, but usually Bloggs knows better than to mess with Digit's wingies. One morning he finished his then nipped over to Digit's pile and thiefed one literally from under his nose. Food that has found its way into Bloggs' mouth is impossible to retrieve as he just swallows if you take a step towards him. So, crunch crunch and it was gone. Dij was absolutely furious and went for him. All teeth and growling; pinned Bloggs to the floor. Luckily Bloggs instantly submits when Dij tells him off - and although Dij does bite him, it's not skin-breaking stuff - so I generally think its better not to intervene.

Knowing I was about to leave for work, I gave Dij 2 extra wings in the hope that this would mollify him a little.

The next morning, I put out their chikkie wings as usual and on the GO ON THEN command, Digit ran straight to Bloggs' pile, picked up one wing and very deliberately added it to his own stash. I could almost hear him say " and that's the one you owe me"

Soooo that's breakfast: chikkie wings when I have them (and I try to make sure I have them most mornings). And they really do make a big difference to teeth and breath. Bloggs has real gleamy white gnashers and although Dij has some staining, it is getting no worse and his breath is much much sweeter than it used to be.

Then for tea they have kibble mixed with minced beef, sardines or table scraps

or sometimes a big turkey leg or other meaty bone

If I had a chest freezer I would switch them completely to BARF, but for now it's about half and half.

Sorry about the digression but I love that story - it proves that whippets can count (at least to 1 !)
