Hi Mark,

I have just got off the phone to Keith who was told by someone on the track on Sunday that the track was to be taken over from 4 Jan 2002 by a mate of Alan Neilson (the guy who got done for drugs on the TV documentary-he was also banned from St Helens track).

Apparently Arther is to stay on for two weeks until everything is sorted and Christine's (who takes the money) husband is to start doing the handicapping.

Obviously it's all second hand info so we'll have to wait & see

when is Gin Pits fun/dog race day going to be this year? Suturday/Sunday???

(Edited by Mark Roberts at 2:34 pm on Jan. 2, 2002)

News this week that the new owners are more than happy for the whippets to hold an open one sunday and there is talk of letting us have a couple of heats during the week in between the greyhound racing (this includes any pedi's that wish to race).  The previous opens weren't very well attended so hopefully if we can drum up a bit more interest we can make it a better day all round.

Anyone interested let me know!!!!!

hi vicky where is westhoughton greyhound stadiumis it inside or outside lure

(Edited by NEILPEM at 6:14 pm on Jan. 12, 2002)

They have both inside & outside hares so it would be whatever the majority decided on before we advertised.  It doesn't matter to me because my dogs run crap to both!!!!! But i do think that the outside reduces the injuries with a lot less bumping etc.

The grounds themselves aren't exactly Walthemstow but they're ok i've seen worse, they have a bar and little cafe.

Track situated : Westhoughton, which is in between Atherton & Hindley, Gtr Manchester.  Not sure of the road name.

(Neil - it takes approx 15 mins from my grandads house)

What good news its hi time the whippet racing fraternity had a local greyhound track open to them and night racing would be a welcome and pleasant change. I for one would be very interested in participating during the evening so the sooner the better! Please keep us posted on times, dates and ongoing events.

Is it still possible to trial on a Wednesday morning?

I'll find out if trialing on Wednesday mornings is still on and let you know Steve.

steve have you been to henlow,if so what did you think

i have been but didnt think much of it, the last time i went my dog never even got a chance to look at the track, it was out of the car and in the trap,i personaly think a dog should at least get a look at the track and a couple of races, before being expected to run on it thats my oppinion anyway.

sorry Neil i have never been to Henlow so i can not pass comment on the track .Henlow is a bit far for the wife to drive ,so until April when i get my licence back i am a little bit limited as far as traveling is concerned.I do however agree that dogs require a couple of runs to show their full potential ,but Fluke had never been round Highgate before she won the yearlings last year .And as you know she then she went on to take supreme a month or so later. I think some dogs like people just have natural ability and adapt quickly, this gives them the edge they require to be special and stand out from the rest.

We held the north west bend open there about 5/6 years ago- which was a well organised and good day, the problem recently was the owner wanted to sell it and became less interested:sad:, so maybe the new owner is a bit better, ill be paying a visit soon but if it's improved and the owner is willing then we will probably see about an open there:cheesy:, with mine and vicky's persuasion powers i'm sure we can drum up some sponsership!!!

the track is ok ,not sure of the distance we ran but it didnt seem very far,to me if your bend racing the distance is important otherwise you may as well just go straight racing which i think gets a bit boring at times, although not all think the same thats my apinion

Will peds be running to gin pit rules Vicky or those nancy WCRA one's? We used to love those night's at W/h/ton.

PS: Heard Ellesmere port is opening again too this year. Now that is a galloping track!! We'll just have to concentrate on getting some gallopers.

Gin pit rules are race you're dog and go for a beer afterwards:cheesy:, as you control the peds I suppose you could pick youre own rules.

As far as wessy goes would you prefer to run the gin pit way for the peds?  It's entirely up to you!!  With the night time racing for non-peds so far i won't be handicapping, it will all be timed in by the resident wessy handicapper (fella who does the greyhounds).

Suits me to run to our rules. What day would they be graded on? A lot of ped clubs run Sundays so Sun. morning would be out for most of them. How far along are you with the night racing? Have you ran at Gin Pit this year?

Vicky did you ever find out if they are still trialing on Wednesday mornings and is it still 11-30 for outside hare?also do they trial any other mornings and at what time?please let me know as soon as pos. thanks steve ???

Sorry Steve, i forgot to reply my mind's going!!

Yes trialing is still on a Wednesday at same time and as far as i know thats the only mid-week trialing day.

This topic started how long back?

Arthur had been trying to get hold of someone from our club so phoned him about getting some whippet racing on.

He said we can have the track anytime on a saturday or sunday after the greyhound trialling.

As most opens are on a Sunday i have said Saturday will probably suit us better and to keep cost's down we will handicap and do the traps, hence we will just need to pay the lure drivers wages!!

If anyone is interested please let me know so that i can get back to him with numbers & a start date!!

This is open to ped's, non-peds & lurchers basically anyone who is willing to turn up and pay a few quid for a run.

Anyone else????

I'll be phoning and booking a date early part of this week, it looks like we'll be running fortnightly to start off with and depending on the turnout we will decide how frequent to run from then on!
