Waiting For A Call

While out walking, my one Whippet injured himself while running. It's his hind lower leg, vet said could be ligament or could be a small bone that has broken , we had to leave him at the vets where he will be sedated then x-rayed. Now killing time waiting for the vet to ring back with some news. One minute he was fine then a yelp and he went down, poor Pete

Hi Shane, fingers crossed that it's a minor problem. I always find that the hardenst part of coping with an injury to a dog is the recuperation - try telling them that they can't run like a loony - especially a whippet!!

Vet just rang, bad discolation, Pete needs an operation, vet said she can do it or she will refer us to a specialist, what ever he will have to have it pinned, and will have a stiff lower leg,?, won't be running again!

Worst thing is he has to stay at the vets and has never been on his own before poor little chap.

feeling upset, brother subdued and will be sleeping with us tonight.

awwww,poor pete,sorry to hear that. but at least hell get better and who knows one day he might be able to run again.vets have been proved wrong before now by dogs.hope pete is allright soon

Poor Pete Try not to worry too much I'm sure he'll be on medication so a bit dopey and probably won't be too stressed. I'm sure also he will run again in time fingeres crossed :luck: He's still a youngish dog isn't he? So he should heal up quickly.

Its amazing how resilient these dogs were, I was a jibbering mess when I just had to leave mine at the vets for a minor op. He'll be home in no time :luck: :luck:

Aw, sad news - poor Pete Sounds like he's a brave little chap, though.

You should talk to Rae, antoher K9-er, her whippet Leia had a tough time recently with a leg injury but she's doing really well now :thumbsup: I think she posted some pics recently of Leia up and about.

Very best of luck with Pete :luck: :luck: :luck: My only advice would be to go to the Orthopaedic specialist if you are able - the extra money is really worth it for peace of mind and knowing that the vet will be really experienced in that type of injury, and will have all the equipment and resources available to deal with it. :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

I'd say go with the specialist - in addition to the fact they specialise it's also a 2nd opinion and never hurts to get one of those.
