Bought some vitalin original yesterday to give my two a change. Both really liked it and it also seemed a really inexpensive food compared to the kibble feeds, I paid £6.99 for a 10 KG bag. Just wondered if anyone else feeds this.
 
:D Used to feed it to all my dogs years ago, they all had tripe mixed in with it and loved it. Only changed as it wasn't easy to clean up the poo's after, just all crumbled ! :eek: (w00t)

Forgot to add I now use Supa dog Greyhound 15kg bag £8 :thumbsup:

I have been feeding Sid on Oscars Super Premium and pay £19.50 for 7kg. When he first came to me he had digestive problems and this was the only food that suited him - but now he seems to be able to eat anything [typical whippet]. I will certainly give the Vitalin a try - what a difference in price. (w00t)

Do you get it from your pet shop or do you order it online?
 
We have been feeding our dogs Vitalin original for breakfast after the morning walk for about 18 months, the dogs love it. It seems to be a very good food.

It helped Freya gain a bit of weight as she was having trouble putting it on.

Are you feeding Vitalin original (yellow bag) or Vitalin Royal (blue bag).

The Vitalin Royal has extra minerals but is the same price. We used to buy a bag of each and mix it.

Bought from my local pet shop, think their prices are fairly competitive.

I'v not come across Oscars Super Premium, very expensive but good no doubt? Still, not too bad if you'v just one whippet to feed , feeding 4 or 5 dogs on it would work out too expensive for most I imagine.

The Vitalin Original is like a muesili and you add warm water to it to form a crumbly mix, I'll try and get the Vitalin Gold and see how it compares.

I have now found out today that feeding Vitalin does tend to make the dogs stools very bulky not that it's too much of a problem to deal with. I cleaned some off the lawn earlier and thought a big dog must of got into our garden and done it, surely could'nt have been one of Annies :lol:
 
thought i just mention,they do a delivery service all included in the price,which is good, on their website, just ring up and oreder it also coming soon you can order it online. :thumbsup:
 
We are trying to get a bit of weight off our dog, what do others suggest? He now only has one meal in the evening, should he have this halved and have one in the morning?
 
I have used Vitalin in the past but found Skinners Ruff and Ready really good too and not badly priced either. High protein level was good for the dogs when they were working, about 20+%. Only stopped getting it as had problems getting in Perth....

Loosing weight is simple; reduce calories intake and/or increase exercise (calories output) .

To reduce calories intake you can switch to lower calories food or just reduce the amount. :luck:

Be careful with Vitalin as it has alot of maize content in it and can get dogs overheated and make them chew themselve s( my experiance anyhow ) I feed SUPA Greyhound too , £ 6.29 a bag for 15 kgs :- "

Debs if you boy is overwight . cut down his food :b , try him with the odd carrot to nibble too ( no calories in carrots )

wish it was that simple for me ;)

£6.29 (w00t) That cos you live tup north......... we Southerners have to pay more for most things ! :(
 
I tried Vitalin once, it seemed come out in the same form it went in :x

I found my dogs found it quite hard to digest, it became bird food in the end :oops:
 
I reckon Vitalin is bird food in disguise :x
 
I tried it once, long time ago, and the birds used to swoop in and peck about at the turds. So bird food to me also Im afraid :( And I would worry about the maize content causing itch, specially in the summer months.
 
I used Vitalin years ago, but agree with others that what comes out at the other end is very like bird food. :x :x It makes for a lot of clearing up. I personally would not use it. :- " :- "
 
Must admit my two are not all that keen on it now. I think when you introduce a new taste they really go for it to begin with and then they go off it after a time, not that I'v been feeding just vitalin, I'v been feeding it every other day as one of the two meals a day they have. The only food which never gets left is raw meat, especially chicken. :)

Jax, I had been giving him carrots until a couple of weeks ago, but at a recent race meeting someone told OH carrots were poisonous to dogs and he shouldn't have them (w00t)

Must say I had never heard this before, but had stopped giving them to him :(

Am confused now :wacko: - what are the views on this please.
