What can the scan pick up then ? , Wendy , and if it picks up an anomaly(sp) what can be done . Sorry for asking , but Im curious

Previous scans, on the collies, (so far, touch wood all the whippets litters have been normal,) re-absobtion and the worse was the start of pymetra, all the pups on one side were just an aweful mess, the other side of the uterus was fine, pups looked normal, but of course we had to lose them all to save the bitch. :(

Of course this all depends on how good the person doing the scan is at reading the images. Some vets haven't got a clue, the litter Dylan came from, the breeder was charged £70 to be told no pups at 5 weeks, a week later a professional scanner I had put her in touch with, picked up 9 possibly 10 pups for half the price and doing it at her home. As we all know she had 9 healthy pups.

When the scan picked up the Pyo in your collie had she any symptoms or was she just having a scan anyway?

If you had'nt had her scanned can you be sure she wouldnt have just reabsorbed and birthed the good side.

It was picked up on just a normal scan, no symptoms of anything, She was off her food but this can also be a normal symptom of pregnancy between 3 - 6 weeks. I had her spayed as it all looked very nasty, so cannot say what would have happened. But saying this a friend also in collies had a bitch scanned at 5 weeks, 7 puppies, at seven weeks all signs of pregnacy had dissapeared. She had her re-scanned, no puppies just a bit of debris, she was put on antibotics but two weeks later became very ill, another case of pyometra (closed) she had to fight for her life but she did eventually pull through.

One more of my horror stories

This was before I used to get bitches scanned. I had a nice Tri bitch who had a nice litter of 5 pups all weighing over a 1lb, which in collies whos average weights are 6 -8 ozs was very good. It was a totally outcross, so for her second litter I decided to linebreed. First two attempts failed, so after long decussions with vet and other breeders, we went for the pre-mate test. She ovalated on her 8th day, she was mated and by 6 weeks it was obvious she was in whelp. On the morning of her 7 th week she showed symptoms of being in labour, vet was arranged to come out, but before she had got here, 9 tiny pups all about 2-3 oz had been born, but the heartbreaking thing was 3 of the puppies were alive, very naked and under devoleped and of course there was nothing to do but to have them kindly PTS but to see mum so sad afterwards put me off breeding for a long while. But the question is, if she had been scanned would something have been picked up, that maybe could have been sorted by a course of antibotics. It was later discovered that her milk was bad, infection ?? who knows !

Lovely pic  Hope its good news when she goes vets  :luck:

what colour is Tilly on her papers Wendy?, shes the same as my Holly and different people call her different colours, if that makes sense

She's registered as Blue Brindle Parti. What's Holly registered as ?

Just particolour and white for some strange reason!!! (w00t)

But yes, i always say blue brindle parti, but arnt they dilute? Ive noticed how some blue brindles are dark and others light, like ours.

Teenas with Lola is alot like Holly but quite abit darker but i think shes classed as blue brindle too.??

Yes it gets very confusing does'nt it

This pic is of 6 blue brindles, because there actual brindle is blue (the dilute of black) but many whippet breeders will call them differant, most would call the first a red brindle LOL

Gosh! They all look totally different dont they??

I wouldnt of classed dog no.1 as blue brindle at first glance.

Willow, new pup, is down as silver fawn brindle and parti, but id of said shes silver blue brindle at min

PS Nice pics by the way, Girl at bottom left is Carolines Aimee isnt she?
