How are you coping? The terrific storm last night kept me awake and the heat too.
Its going to get hotter tomorrow. eek !
I'm glad I don't have to go anywhere tomorrow .

With a little black dog that absorbs heat we are relying heavily on windows being open everywhere to create draughts, frozen Kongs and a cool coat.

The storm around us lasted an hour and a bit, but at one point it was right over us with a massive flash and bang!

My 2 have treat dispensers in the freezer, ready for later and a colling mat each. Where are they? In the bedroom, Milly on the bed, Honey in her crate (probably).

The bedroom faces south.

We decamped from our sea-level home up into the Welsh hills yesterday to spend the day by a little lake. Ricky the corgi x - who usually thinks he will die if you drip water on him - spent most of the time up to his middle in the water! As did the rest of us. We sort of enjoyed last night's storm - it was a great relief not having to hose the garden. But oh the heat already! Good luck everyone! o_O

Our house is quite cool so we're hiding indoors. It's still 23c in here though! I don't mind the heat, within reason, but if I go into the garden, J insists on coming too and then flops onto the lawn and pants.

I tried some 'paddling pool' training yesterday. I haven't got a paddling pool but as a start I taught him to stand with his front feet in a shallow trug. Then I poured a dribble of water in, so little that it only covered about half the base of the trug. He sidled round it, tentatively lifted a paw and put it close to the bottom of the trug but then drew it back because it was too scary. Yet he'll happily wade through streams & puddles, and wallow in water on walks to cool off!

I was woken by the storm last night. I could hear J panting a little but he wasn't whining so wasn't too bad.

The storm started at 1.30am and was still going at 5am, Rolo decided he needed a poo at 1.45 couldn't believe it, standing in the middle of my garden with my nighty on lol the lightning was unreal.
I've made frozen lollipops and I freeze yoghurt on to their lickimats.

The storm went on for hours here too.
Pip Jrt is usually ok with fireworks and storms but for some reason he became very restless and couldnt settle.
They both like to sunbathe but they've found it too hot today in the garden .
The living room faces south so Ive closed the curtains and have the windows open and fan on and a cold flannel on my head ! Its 80 f inside.

420am this morning it was 20 already ......dogs are fine just lazing around ...enjoying frozen goats yoghurt ...
Guniea pigs have cool pads, cool mats ,freezer blocks ....damp towels and an umbrella keeping them cool ......
Its lovely if you have nothing to do ....
Cant believe some idiots are still walking their dogs in the afternoon heat :mad:i couldnt stand on the patio bare footed it was so hot ...

Libby is long coated and she was panting earlier so shes had a cool shower and is more comfortable.
Pip insists on lying on the back door step much to my annoyance . Ive put a puppy panel up to stop them going outside now. Ive got the back and front doors open and all the windows. Theres a breeze outside which is cooling.

Hubby gave me all sorts of complicated instructions as to which windows I should open and close when, and which curtains should be drawn at what time, to keep the house as cool as possible. Did I listen? Of course not.

So I've closed the west-facing bedroom curtains and opened the east-facing bedroom windows now in the hope I got at least one bit right.

If I had the car I might have taken J to the woods so he could flop around under the trees and in the stream - and I could have too - instead we're just flopping around the house.

No storms here but its very hot..The great thing about it being so flat is that once you get out of town the breeze is great so sunset last night we went walking andreally cooled off then this morning while the land was still shrouded in mist we headed for the woods where the tree canopy has kept everything lovely fresh and cool....

We had the storm but no real rain. Harri is not enjoying the weather at all. He gets a short walk along the river at 8am which gives him some cooling off opportunities and then spends the rest of the day stretched out as flat as possible on the stone floor of the dining room which being north facing with thick stone walls never gets any more than not cold!

I took the dogs out for a quick walk at 6am. It was nice and quiet and cool .

Hottest day here since I remember and where is T? The conservatory. The blinds are drawn and the big doors are open; but really?

I've just seen a comment on FB - a dog walker told someone that there was no reason at all not to walk your dogs in the heat, because she came from Australia and over there the dogs have no trouble at all at the temperatures we're having.

Idiot  I hope the owners of the dogs she walks have more sense than she has.

@JudyN....i saw the same post on FB, profit over welfare sprung to mind.

There was also a good post reminding people about Blue/Green algae and it's dangers. I know it's starting to appear in some of the ponds and lakes around where I go fishing.

We have a website showing swim water and its quality including warnings for blue algae, they include doggy beaches in the warnings so thats handy because it happens every year.
On a sad note some idiot yesterday decided to walk their dog across town to the pet store/vet where my son in law works. The dog collapsed just outside the shop and even though the vets rushed to help and did their best there was nothing they could do to save the poor dog.

Why do people keep doing this?

Oh that’s so awful @Mad Murphy :-(

I’ve just read two heat related stories..

1. A dog walker took out a greyhound in the heat and it died :-(

2. A lady left her boxer in the car and received a whole ton of abuse from some builders (thank god!!) but she just looked dumb about it.
