Speed Judging

What is the quickest a judge has gone through all the whippet classes and the challenge. Just been to a show where four classes and the challenge took only 30 minutes. Dindn't feel as if we'd been in the ring at all.

Is this a record?

Wherew was this , what entry and who was the speedy judge ?

2nd Champ Show I was ever at was Three Counties in 2001. Judge was Mr Bothwell (I think). I had been told not to get there too early as bitches are never before noon at the very earliest. I arrived at 10:30 and my breeder rushed over to me and helped us get ready because they were already on the Dog CC's and we were in the minor puppy bitch! He was thorough - just fast. Have never yet had another judge that fast.

Yep it was Frank Bothwell judging at Malvern. Got a 2nd in MPB with what whippet.

Also recall a wolfie having a go at it's owner at this show.

This was the Plymouth show with Mrs C Coxall judging.

There were only 16 dogs in total (lots of absentees, or maybe they couldn't get in thr ring quick enough).

Didn't have time to stand the dogs properly. She didn't look at them until they were on the table and was going over the front while you were still setting up the back. Checked no teeth. A quick up and down and then back to the line up.

I think that is really bad manners  not to give each and every dog time to set up proberly , perhaps she had something to get home for  :- "

Must remember not to waste my money on her ;)

Glad I didn't go to that one then Silas!! ;) Who went BOB, anyone we know?

This can be fairly typical of some all-rounders, no interest in the breed they are judging and a lot of breeds to get through. At the ringcraft we go to, we actually practise for this kind of prat judge so at least our dogs are fairly ready on the table and we are not faffing around with them.

Just to clarify - I don't want anyone to think Mr Bothwell was like the other judge mentioned. He was fast - but very thorough. I wouldn't hesitate to go under him again - I would just be there very early :D

I find it hard to go to a major show. Big $$$$$$ to enter. The judge, having been in the country for a month or so, & draged from city to city. Motel to someones house etc, They are board, totally exhausted & are then sent into the ring to judge yet again.

The last thing they want to see is yet another dog. Yet, as I said, $$$$$$ for entries, a judge totally wanting to be elsewhere.

They do the teeth, testicles & "that" pat on the shoulder. A point towards the centre of the ring, & to the end of the line. Then one dog will be selected to go to first, & the rest to follow.

I was at a show once where the judge was yorning & leaning on the table, arms folded, etc. He pointed to the ring as to indicate to move my dog. I just had to ask him if he was going to bother to watch??? Did me no good, but got him to stand up straight for a while. o:)

We travel 100's of miles to a show, & all we want is to be treated in a manor which we are acustomed. :teehee:

Time?? You can never be fast & do a good job. But then what about the judge that takes all day & still stuffs it up???

One of my first champ shows , Darlington I think , I watched the judge( now deceased ) turn his back on most of the dogs when they were moving  .

When it came to my turn , on the up and down , I did the up , stopped , looked up, he`wasnt looking , so I stayed there  ( When he eventually turned round ,i said ` Are you ready now !! ` and then i moved back towards him :- " ,

He watched my triangle all the way round ,`cos I stopped at each corner to check :- " AND I got placed too ;)

If they are not interested WHY do they do it !

Precisely! No-one is forcing them to judge. You are invited and always have the option of saying No!!!

Hi Silas

I live in Plymouth, but didn't know anything about the show. Where was it held and do they hold it every year?

Another of Catarina Romedahl's (Sweden) breeding having a win! She will be VERY pleased.

Not 100% Mandy21 but I believe its Plymouth & district canine society and is held at Exeter Livestock Centre. To be honest most shows around devon are held there now.

Not too keen on their last show personally thought it was badly organised and Silas thats where we had that other delightful judge ;) and all the confusion arose regarding whether a pup from AV hound puppy was allowed in the group judging ;)

Prodogs website give you details of open shows Mandy21 and may be worth a look if you're interested in going to a few shows. By the way Southwest whippet is in September at Bridgwater - why not come to that??

Thanks Joe.

I will be on holiday for Bridgewater but would like to take whizz to more open shows or fundays. We all really enjoyed the funday at ugbrooke house and it helped whizz with his socialising.

I believe she must be the litter sister of Tammsvik first day BOS winner (yes Tammsvik again :p ).

Well done Catharina!!!!!

Yes Joe.

Doesn't seem to be a good show for me. Not arguing with results but when you hear a judge ask the steward if the dog they just pulled in first is a dog or a bitch (not a whippet by the way) it makes you wonder what some of the judges are doing there. :b
