Hi, I'm doing a project on how animals get different nutrients and (although this might be a long shot) I'm wondering if anyone knows any sources of carbohydrates for a carnivore? I've got wheat and oats etc. for a herbivore, but is there anything about meat? Thanks :)

Opinions vary on this, but a lot of people - particularly raw feeders - believe that dogs don't need carbs at all. They only tend to be added because they are cheap. Though people often include veg in the diet and there will be some carbs in these.

I feed my dog veg with his meat, but he also gets some carbs from leftovers I use as treats. Pizza crust is a favourite!

Interestingly whilst we often think of carbs as wheat, oats, cereals and grains the fact is that most fruits, veg, and things like lentils and egg have carbs in them. Some are good, some are considered bad, some are simple and some complex. Under the American AAFCO guidelines a dogs diet is not considered balanced or complete without the 6 food groups (one of which is carbs) or a range of 37 nutrients that a dog needs to function.
