Is there anything that we can do to keep the dogs/puppy from shredding them when left alone? I hate to take their beds away but I also hate to keep buying them.

I can sew, not well but it gets the job done. Would a denim cover (with zipper) be more resilient and worth the effort? The only fabric-like toy that lasts at all is the ones made from fire hose material but that wouldn't make a good bed even if I could find it.

Could you give the dogs hard plastic beds and fill them with old blankets etc. from charity shops?

Alternatively... if money is no object, Orvis does 'Toughchew' beds with a 100% guarantee: 'If your dog can chew through one of our tough dog beds, we’ll give you a full refund, no questions asked.' I'd want to check the smallprint though, in case they quibble over the definition of 'chew through' or something though. (I confess I have three Orvis beds - not the tough chew ones - and they give all appearances of lasting forever, so I can vouch for their quality.)

I think plastic hard beds are a UK thing and the shipping costs 5x the price of the dog bed. I may just look at plastic storage containers or such.

The Orvis beds look wonderful but the price (especially with 3 dogs) is way too high for us.

Yeah, I know - we're not rich, but if anyone wants to comment along the lines of 'more money than sense' I'm not going to argue :D
