Shy puppy 16 week old

I was wondering if anyone has advice me and my wife have just brought a 16 week old shepard cross huskie pup he will follow me everywhere but will not go any where near my wife

ooh this is interesting, poor little chap, has he not had much contact with ladies before maybe? Its usually the other way round. Perhaps he is un-used to the pitch of her voice, a higher pitch signifies excitement to a dog so maybe he is a bit wary, if he is a little shy. Did you both collect him together? Was there a lady at the breeders house? How long have you had him?

Maybe you could try getting your wife to give him his dinner, and or drop treats nonchalantly around herself. I'd ask her to not approach him, and not make eyecontact with him, and maybe drop a tasty treat on the floor if he comes near her. Always ignore any behaviour you don't want, and gently reward (treat praise or strokes) any behaviour you do want. Does he run off or act scared if she approaches him?

hi im the lady who he wont go anywhere near he runs off and wont come anywhere near me unless ive got food the lady bought him to us she also bought his parents the mum was a bit shy but the dad was really friendly the lady we got him off said he had had interaction with people but only on the farm she dropped us a sack of dog food off on Saturday and bought two of his litter mates with her that she is keeping my husband said they was just as nervous

Hi Guys

May I suggest you have a tea towel/ piece of cloth and have the scent of your lady on it. Then place under your pup's bowl when eating- he will associate her scent with lovely things!!

Seems you are doing all the right things, treats are key but the lady should do everything from feeding, walking etc

Also if you need to. go to puppy socialising clubs - your vet should have one via their practice.

The 1st 12 weeks of a pups life is where they learn the most, this pup has obviously learnt that women are nbad scary creatures...it will take a lot of time and patience...just be calm around the pup, share walks and feeding, playing and treat giving
