Our eldest boy Paddy has just turned 2 years old and recently he has become increasingly horny   which is unfortunate for lil Willow

Anyhow I interupted him in the garden tonight being a bit naughty (is it normal for dogs to have an interest in the same sex?? - I imagine it is) they came inside and Paddy was struggling to walk and I must admit I was a bit shocked by the look of his tackle (not jealous by the way!!! :D :p ). The thing that didn't seem quite right was at the base of his  was a big bulge which I can only describe as being like a flower bulb and it wasn't his plumbs.

I hope I haven't embarrased myself too much but I was obviously very concerned for the wee man and I hope you tell me its perfectly normal. We did phone the vets but the receptionist just laughed and said we'd have to take him down to them. He's calmed down a bit now and seems fine.

Thanx 4 ne info, Neil :b :b

:D Neil, he had a hard on,nothing to worry about and perfectly normal.

Also, it is perfectly normal to dogs and bitches, to mate the same sex. As your boy is now 2 yrs old,I suspect he was trying to be dominant over your other dog.It should settle down soon, once he has worked out his exact place in your pack.

Nothing to worry about Neil, the big bulge is to keep the penis inside the bitch for the max amount of time while the sperm is delivered. This is called a tie and can last 30 minutes or so. We always say if this happened to humans it would knock infidelity on the head overnight (w00t)

You dog is just being dominant, bit like a lager lout.

I know he had a "Hard On" Lyd :D ;)

I was more concerned about the bulge or as karen has corrected me the tie. i take its the same thing that foxes have when they are conected to one another for days!!!

Cheers for the your comments they were most helpful, and thanks for the explanation Karen, if you don't ask you dont find out and im glad Paddy is NORMAL :D

I thought it was a dominance thing, which he has been doing for the past six months but had not been getting so excited

Cheers Neil :b

I once had this happen whilst out for a walk. Keeper decided to bonk poor little Ziggy, a male dog also, and got his willy stuck out. Same thing with the bulbus. Everything enormous and red. :b I waited 45 minutes in that field - luckily nobody else turned up, and still he hadn't gone down and he couldn't walk. I tried picking him up but all the other dogs kept jumping up at him. In the end I had to walk very slowly all the way home hoping I wouldn't meet anyone. Of course once we got home he jumped in his bed and licked himself and he went down in a couple of minutes. Phew! :sweating:

The very same thing happened again a few months ago but this time it was with Keeper's son. Same dog, Ziggy that got bonked. Same field. It must run in the family :b

Luckily Paddy was only in the garden Judy, but I can imagine if it did happen in the Park it would be a bit of a tricky situation as we have quite a distance to walk. Bet you were pleased to get home.

:D :p

I've never left home since. Send chocolate.

Poor Ziggy - bless him

Thanks you so much for this, i just searched cos my 6 month old staff puppy decided he was gonna hump his teddy bear and got stuck............ i've never seen this before in any dog i've owned and the poor little puppy was walking like John Wayne.

I was in a complete panic and was going to ring the vets but i thought i'd check here first, I'm so glad i did, i've now bookmarked the K9 community thanks again

Absolutely normal, as is the interest in the same sex- our two male pups (six months old) are always 'humping' as my sons so nicely put it! Roscoe used to be our top dog but I'm thinking that may be changing as they take it in turns to be on top now :b :-

Humping !!! hard on's !!!! quick where's the wife ??? to late she's asleep -_-

The very same thing happened to myself & sister whilst we had the dogs for a run in the fields. Lincoln her dog fancied his sister Gypsy just a little too much  To the point that we could not take them out together :( Oh the shame, trying to get back to the car without anyone seeing  In the end Lincoln had the chop :- but it solved the problem & we can go on nice walks together again & poor Gypsy does not get a sore bottom anymore. :D
