Should Buster have an operation?

Just acquired a six year old, took him to the vet who said only one testicle has dropped, should I leave him as he seems ok or get him operated on?

Personally I would get him castrated as the retained testicle has a much higher chance of turning cancerous, so better to chop them off now than when a problem arises :luck:

Yes, I'm with murphy on this one too. Testicles are meant to be at a lower temperature than the rest of the body and retained testes can undergo all sorts of changes which aren't good for the animal/human.

Even though it's a bigger operation, it's worth doing it and making sure that he can't needlessly end up with cancer later on. You will also not see whatever behavioural advantages you may otherwise see from neutering because the testosterone is still being released by the retained testicle, even if he's not fertile (retained testes very rarely produce viable sperm).

:sweating: Nope I race my whippets but all dogs are the same my vet is Dr Boyce Clydebank and in his opinion and his words not mine he has had many arguments over the dinner table over this myth that if 1 of your dogs tests have not dropped that it can cause cancer as I say he is a doctor and im sure they all have their own opinion on this that in all the years he has been a vet NEVER EVER has he ever had an old dog with 1 had cancer but if you think this would help then you gotta do what you gotta do tbh would I do this DEFO NO im sure this might cause a stir but we are all entitled 2 our own opinions and have talked 2 my vet about this at great length hope this helps you
