ditto, don't get Dog World and can't catch the drift of this thread - was a letter posted saying people shouldn't take photos at shows and post them on forums like this???

I think that might be the general gist of it Helena and as far as I'm concerned it is so petty. It seems like the reasoning behind it is the same reason they wouldn't let me video when I went to SYWC show. They are frightened that someone is going to see something they "shouldn't". Well if that's the case and the dog has a fault that they're concerned that everyone will see - why have it in the ring in the first place - on show for all exhibitors and bystanders to see?

I would really like to see the article/s if anyone can scan them and send them to me. I would be very keen to respond in print! My guess is that these writers haven't even been to k9 to see that when the photos are posted on here it is doing the dogs and their owners GOOD. Many other interested people from other countries are looking at winning dogs from shows. These people should be GRATEFUL that others are posting their dogs' pics on k9 - not slamming them for it. What fantastic FREE publicity they are receiving. They could even get a sale from it or an order for frozen semen - who knows!

The dogs whose pics are posted on here never get picked apart by the viewers anyway! (Unless of course it is the owner posting and asking for comments) All comments on show results pics are positive, congratulatory etc. We might pick out one that we really like and say so .... but what can be wrong with that?

Seeing pics of dogs from shows on here is the biggest bonus for me. It has helped to broaden my knowledge immensely. Certainly, if one is going to be spending money on an overseas dog one wants to know what is out there, particularly amongst the smaller breeders/exhibitors who can't afford to be splashing their dogs across the pages of international magazines every week. This site has certainly been helpful for those of us wishing to see these winning dogs who don't appear on kennel websites or in international magazines.

I just cannot believe the small mindedness of some people in the dog world.

I've stood behind people at shows and listened to far worse being said than anything printed on here. At least anything said on here is subject to scrutiny by all to see. Whispering in the corners of benching tents can and is far more damaging. I have reread a lot of the posts raised after recent shows and cant find anything that I would call way out of line.

Compared to some web sites I have found this one normally quite constructive rather than destructive.

It is actually this sort of thing that made me stop showing Whippets, the moral high ground brigade, and yet as a whole whippet people are some of the best, as this site illustrates.

We shall miss your photos Millie, perhaps you can still post those that are K9ers.

Anyway judging by some of the god awful photos published as show poses in the Whippet Bi-enniel they should worry about anything put on here :- "

LOL - How right you are Jan!

I guess the photo issue goes to lack of control (over the image) on the part of the dogs owner. Not meaning to play devil's advocate here but I do understand, though don't necessarily endorse that idea.

That said, as I'm from another country, to be able to see photos of whippets in Europe and the UK is very benificial to me. Photos of dogs like Bardo & Nevedith Eefa Emporer and others have helped me to understand where the breed is at internationally. I do not subscribe to any overseas or domestic magazines, nor do I belong to any Whippet clubs.

When I posted the photos of the three dogs from the Hound Club of Qld I had permission from their owners to do so. Luck would have it that there had been a rather intensive photo shoot that day among a group of us who support and encourage each other. Those pics apart from the BOB one with the judge were obviously taken outside the ring.

I guess the other thing is that perhaps those who are whispering in corners are just "mean spirited trouble makers" who can not control what happens on K9 and are just bitchin about others for this reason.

Please keep posting pics of K9ers whippets, let them have all this wonderful free publicity.

I would imagine that there is a copyright on those previously mentioned artices in the UK dog press but if anyone would like to scan them and send them to Lana & myself privately it would be much appreciated.

Yep, never thought of it that way, I think you are right there, also if a decision is made in the ring that people aren't happy about and you are on the receiving end of their unhappyness then an unsolicated picture could be the final straw I suppose. Concede on that one.

Could someone please post the article from Dog World?

I missed it and am now very concerned about is being said about K9.

I'm glad K9 is here for DOG lovers, not for politics.

K9 as a site is not mentioned and unfortunately to post the notes would probably infringe some sort of copyright.

Is it possible some one could give a basic over view of what was said, as I'm a bit worried about this as well.

thanks

It probably would be OK to even give a quote from the articles provided that all required info on Publication ,date & author were given.

But we might need a brave soul to do this!!!! o:)

All I can say is that you can photograph any of my dogs, anytime, and post them on here ........... isn't that what having your dog on show is all about??? What are people getting so precious about. No dog is perfect and we all have our own ideas about what is good, bad or indifferent and anything that is written is only YOUR opinion anyway!

:D Yes Jenny they were both in Dog world.......... last weeks made me feel really awefull  :(   because I had posted a lot of photos on here from shows....... that I though members would enjoy seeing, when not attending the shows. Saddly I feel I cannot do this any more  :(
But I would like to add I think we are a nice group of people on here and I would be lost with out my daily fix of K9
Oh MY - what have I missed. I'm going to have to go back and read DW again! I only skimmed this week.

Millie - I've never been bothered when you've posted a pic of me or my girl. I figure we're on the board and it's nice to put faces to names (okay I HATE photos of me, but actually the one you put on wasn't so bad LOL)

I certainly don't remember any threads where pictures have been put up and anything negative or detrimental has been said :(
