Merry Christmas all, :)

I was looking for advice on Rawhide chews.

I am starting to think they are not good for the stomach or the back yard ;-)

What does everyone think about them???

Good

Bad

Alternatives

?

Happy Christmas to you too :D

All mine have rawhide chews of some shape or form on a regular basis - pretty much daily - and have never had any problems at all.

Maybe Diesel is sensitive to these chews and that is causing the upset or maybe it's something else in his diet? The thing which I find can upset their stomachs is the deep fried stuff like pigs's ears etc due to the high fat content.

Tripe sticks are a very good alternative, although they don't last as long as the rawhide chew, and a good old-fashioned raw bone can't be beaten for healthy teeth and gums and endless chewing fun :)

I like to supervise mine when they have them, because when they become soft...they are so easy to swallow whole

which my Kobi has done on several occasions. I dont feed them as often as I used to, and mine sometimes get the runs after them.. :x

My alternatives are Cows Hooves which you can fill with home made fillings and last for ages or pigs ears or tripe sticks

but you cant beat a good large raw knuckle bone.

They sound just the ticket, as Diesel is getting bits of the others and eating them, then regretting it!!!!

Thanks, merry Xmas.

Nylabones may last years but my dogs lost interest in them after a day or two.

there are concerns about pesticide residue in rawhide. I wonder if anyone here knows how justified these worries are?
