Questions About Breeding..

Her sister is my sisters dog.. and she wouldnt let me have her. good suggestion tho i have thought about bringing in another dog from every angel i can think of and it just dosent seam possible. and just so you all know i will be informing her pups new owners of her possesive trait so they dont accidentaly incourage it, and they will all be told that if they no longer want the pup to bring them back and i will do everything in my power to find them a new home.

Ive only just read this post - and i agree with Beejay, everyone has gone on to put their point across of the moralities of this and not help with the original question.

I must say i see all the k9ers points and i agree with them myself but if Heffer-nite is going to breed her bitch anyway, which she obviously is, wouldnt it be better if we actually helped her?

At least shes asked for advice. If we scare her off we are not helping matters.

Seems to me she is going to do what she wants to do anyway, heed advice or not.

Why is everyone pussy footing around. Can understand that replies have to be tactful but sometimes the truth hurts. We do not want to scare anyone away but what Heffernite is intending to do is breed from Mastiff cross with maybe a dalmation. The reason being Heffernite wants another dog but mastiff cross is unaccepting of other dogs, so have a litter and keep one. Don't think I need to go into detail about why this would be a bad idea.

Sorry but as soon as I saw this post it just made me feel that to breed a mongrel litter to get one pup that the mother would get along with is just irresponsible. I cannot imagine it would be easy to find good homes for all the other pups. Where will they finish up.
 
Ok im tryin realy hard to be polite now, some of you guys have tried to be helpful (and i am really thankful of that) but some of you are just being totaly annoying. your all welcome to your opinions and i will respect them but i didnt post on hear to be attacked about what im going to do, i love my dog very much and will do all in my power for my dog and any pups she will have to protect them. that should be all you's are worried about. that is all i had to say on the matter and i will not be replying to any more posts that i feel are just being put there to be rude to me.

sorry heffernite but i agree with mazza.i dont think her post is rude i think shes been quite restrained. :thumbsup: a lot of the people on this site are involved with dog rescue in one shape or form and they get fed up of rescuing dogs and them being put to sleep cos there arent enough homes for them.so after posting the details you have then i suppose its inevitable that youre going to get some feed back that is negative to what you propose.its just that the folk here love animals and weve all seen the results of irresponsible breeding.please dont think im being impolite or nasty or anything like that im not its just there arent enough GOOD HOMES out there for all the dogs that need them :(
 
All I'm putting to you is my opinion. If by what I've said makes you rethink about breeding from your bitch I feel I may have got you to realise what you would be taking on. It may turn out you have a lovely litter and you find good homes for all. If that happens well done. I just think that to go forward with your plans would be an extremely hard task to breed these very big dogs and find homes. I will not play things down and say things just to be nice and polite and not make waves. This is how I see it. You wanted an opinion and I have said why i think you should not plan this litter. I do not think I'm being rude I'm just trying to be realistic and honest. It seems to me that you want someone to say what a good idea it would be. Sorry but i don't think it is.
 
Well all im saying is you guys sound like your trying to make it out that no pedagree or pure breeds make it in to shelters and all my puppys will be miss treated an put to sleep, when it just isnt true and if you think it is then you shouldnt agree with any breeding be it X or otherwise till that matter is solved. your all happy to big up people breeding pure dogs when you dont know anything about them at least as im willingly being honest and letting you know i love my dog and that im going to do every thing in my power to do good by them.

There are not many pedigree dogs bred by responsible breeders ending in pounds because we interview our puppy buyers very carefully, and always make sure they understand we will take the dog back if they cannot keep it. Because I always have many more buyers that pups, I can choose who gets one. I also obly breed from dogs with very GOOD temperament, and I people find them very easy to live with.

Many breed clubs also run rescue services. Most of the dogs which come through our club's rescue are either not quite whippets or are bred by backyard breeders.

And NO we are definitely NOT encouraging ANYBODY to breed. Responsible breeders breed only now and then.

Your reasons for breeding just do not stack up and all what we were doing is to pointing that out to you.

Why do you think your bitch is going to accept one of her pups, if she is so intolerant of other dogs? Dogs do not recognise their kin as such. It is very possible that when the pup matures, and especially if it is going to have her temperament, they are going to be ripping each other to shreds.

You do not want to hear what we are telling you, but believe me, we are just trying to help and save lot of heartache all around. But you obviously will do what you want anyway, so :luck:

I am unable to give advice on breeding - I leave that to the reputable experts who breed purely to ensure they are improving their chosen breed :)

My only opinion (for what its worth) is that if your bitch is intolerant of other dogs, she may well pass this trait onto some of her pups - any of which may up in the hands of someone who is unable or unwilling to manage that intolerance, and so it may develop into agression - a large agressive dog that bites usually ends up PTS - is that a risk you want to take with your pups?
 
Well her mum still mothers her and my dogs sister and she is not tolerant of many other dogs (mainly because she was never socialised) and they have never had a problem. my uncle had one of my dogs brothers and he was socialised and he is a wonderful dog. never had a problem wih meeting other dogs. and as i have all ready said im going to tell the pups new owners that if they dont want them at any time of there life im happy to take them back! read what iv posted before replying. she dose not have a bad temperment she just has never been tought not to be like it, it was never a problem living on the farm were i did.

Just a suggestion, but why not think of trying to find another mastiff, or mastiff cross as the father.

I think that this might make it easier for you to find homes for the puppies as they will be a recognisable type and potential owners of the puppies will understand their character and needs better than they might understand a cross sith a dalmation.

There are a lot of people out there who want mastiff type dogs, but fewer who would want dalmation/mastiffs.

Please don't be offended, I am trying to be constructive.

In your original post,you stated that you/family had a FEW unplanned matings,which to me sounds as irresponsible as wanting to breed mongrels.

As you're so very obviously going to mate her,whatever the good advice from others as to why you shouldn't ,find the dog you want to use & visit it everyday until you get a mating...........but what makes you think she's going to let a strange dog near her anyway???????

If im at a distance from the other dog she will not feel to thretened, because im not near enuff to get hurt by it. She only has problems if the dog aproches me. but yeah good question.

i know a guy whos wifes arse is mastiff.....suppose you couldnt use it ? :)) the council over here use it as a bouncy castle at kiddie partys ! :D last week we took her out with us so she could bring a tray of drinks back on it !! :p
