Whenever I look at Many Tears Rescue in Wales I feel so sad as they always seem to have a lot of bitches for rehoming that have come from puppy farms (I assume). Most won't have been socialised or house trained. The outside world must be such a scary place for them. I wonder how many poor bitches just get PTS at the end of their breeding days and never get to experience a loving home. :rant: :rant:
This has got to be one of the biggest setbacks to canine welfare ever! Various celebrities with 'fashionable' breeds, sporting designer accessories and people think, "yeah, I want to be like that!" 'teacup' breeds, pugs, and various bull breeds seem to be particularly 'fashionable'. If only someone could get the celebs on side and make people realise that a dog is not a fashion accessory!! Go buy another Balenciaga (sp?)/ Gucci handbag!!!! :rant:
I've just had a similar 'rant' about some of my neighbours on another thread about dog training!!Quite a while ago some neighbours bought a Jack Russell puppy. It was delivered half way - they met and the puppy was handed over to them from the breeder's car. They didn't see the Mum, or where the pup was reared. Needless to say the puppy died after about 2 weeks leaving them with expensive vet bills. The so-called breeders didn't want to know. :rant: :rant: I couldn't believe people could be so stupid. :angry:
After that they bought an EBT X puppy. It was a lovely dog, but sadly it never got walked or got taken to dog training classes to be socialised, and they seemed surprised when it kept getting out and wouldn't come back. :- One day it chewed a new sofa cushion and the wife ranted on so much it was then rehomed. So sad as it could have been a lovely dog in the right environment.
This is a pretty 'soft' video and generally sympathetic to the puppy farmers, but 30,000 pups exported to the UK every year is a horrifying statistic, where on earth do they all go?
Even if the conditions are reasonable and the dogs are as well cared for as they say, this surely can't be the right way to breed dogs, one place has up to 500 breeding bitches :rant:
a garden centre near me has a large pet section and sadly yes they do sell puppies :angry:
Here in Australia pet shop prices are usually higher than what breeders ask.
most if not all breeding bitches from puppy farms are bred from their first season, and every season there after untill they are no longer required or they become ill or cost money ie need a C section, no puppy farmer will breed only once a year from one bitch as it would cost them more to keep the bitch, its a business after all.
