1st vacc can be done at 7wks although most vets prefer to wait until 8wks...2nd vacc has to be at 12 weeks

It doesn't have to be at 12 weeks. Vaccinations can now be done 2 wks apart, it use to be 4 wks. Holly's were 2 wks apart.

My vet will do the first vac as earlier as 8 weeks, but will not do the second one before 12 weeks.

Not that I am an expert as I do not have my dogs conventionally vaccinated but doesn't the regime depend on the manufacturer's guidelines??

I think that's exactly it Dessie. My vet now uses the one that they have 2 weeks apart. However, 3 years ago with Chloe they were using the 4 weeks apart one. Therefore, will vary from vet to vet. Mine said this 2 week one is getting the 'norm' now.

My vet does at 8 weeks then at 10 weeks, even with my old dog Bryn, I didn't know if he had been vaccinated, it was at two week intervals that was years ago

It does indeed depend on the manufacturers protocol. My Vet uses the 4 weeks apart one but the last Vet did them 2 weeks apart.

Have you got any picyures of the little pups?? :huggles:

I'll clarify the statement 'vaccinated'. They have had their first shot at 8 weeks and will require a second shot at 12 weeks. They are from my own dogs. The sire is 'Just Billy' - who I have raced for the past 9 years. He has been top club dog for several years and has a mix of show and race championship blood in him including Shalfleet & Ladiesfield and racing cahmpions such as 'Tommy & Slightly Dangerous'. The dam is from the preston area - bought her 4 years ago. She also has a mix of racing and show lines including Nevedith and racing champions such as Jolly and Nippy Girl. The dam is not particuarly quick on the track but is second to none for her work rate, ability to find rabbits and for her bravery. She is the only dog I have had that will chase Seagulls into the sea, only stopping when the water is three parts up her sides. Pictures of the pups to follow.

This is Ransom and Jefferies.

Originally I had only 2 puppies left, but I now have one extra, due to somebody not getting back to me. This is Romeo. Yes he is as pretty as the picture suggests. He is going to be a good looker, but I don't think he'll make up to a top racing or show dog (only my personal opinion mind!).

Now I'd say that it depends on what the vets stock.

I had my last pup vaccinated once at 13 weeks. This was because I was concerned about vaccinosis (If it exists at all but I was worried due to what I'd read). My vets will give individual vaccinations not just combination vaccines. Nice ain't it to have vets that out of the box and are prepared to discuss matters with clients. ;)

I have in the past had my pups vaccinated early but due to the fact that they might have mothers immunity this means that they have to be vaccinated later (2nd vaccine) ie 8 weeks and 12 weeks. As I am concerned about over vaccinating pups and the effects that this might have on them. I vaccinate once at 13 weeks. There is sufficient evidence I feel that having dogs vaccinated 2 weeks apart doesn't work at all and is harmful.

12 -13 weeks is where the dam's immunity is gone that is why the last jab has to be done then. But that isn't the whole issue.

i have a 7 year old 5 year old and a 14month old

that all had there jabs first at 8 weeks second at 12 weeks

and paid the same price £25-
