hi

does anyone own a pug?

we are very likely to be having a pug in around eight months time.

a friend is a breeder and we are probably going to be having a fawn dog ( if there is one on the litter of course).

would just like to know about pugs from a pet owners perspective not just a breeders point of view if possible.

The bitch who will be the dam is a lovely bomb proof little dog and mixes with kids dogs etc very well...so we are quite excited about the prospect of owning an entirely different breed.

:blink: my friend has one - I dont know if its common with them, or just bad luck on my friends side but hers has lots of skin allergies so at this time of the year has to be careful where she walks her Sad for the pug cos she just wants to run with the others but cant.

i dont know much about them apart from the fact that they are soooooo cute...........i would love one, o/h says they are ugly

funny you mention the skin allergies, a friends daughter has a black pug (called Princess !) about 6/7 months old and her little wrinkly face is baldy, they think it's due to mites, she'd give the Chinese Crested's a run for their money in the beauty stakes :- "

I have heard that they can have breathing problems cos of their squashed noses, and they pant a lot because of it. But check that out because I'm no expert and may not be so!!

My OH really really wants a pug!! I dont really like them personally but I got my whippet so he has a pretty strong argument!

We've got a 5 year old male fawn Pug called Rodney. He's one of six other dogs and is the third Pug we've owned.

I can tell you that your life will never be boring with a Pug around! Ours is brilliant, frustrating, bossy, thinks he's a pit bull, loves a cuddle, naughty with a capital N, and never fails to make you laugh no matter how infuriating he's been!!

He's robustly healthy. Have to say he's never had a skin problem other than a couple of hot spots a couple of years ago. His breathing is no problem, we're just careful not to walk him in the middle of the day if it's very warm in summer, but then I wouldn't walk the other dogs then anyway. He's very athletic and has quite a turn of speed in short bursts, even trys to keep up with our Whippet! He's not wrapped in cotton wool and leads the same life as the other dogs.

He does love the ladies even though he's castrated, which our Daxies think is wonderful when they're in season!!!!!

They're a fun breed and love to be with their family doing what they are. Don't do it much, but they do seem to enjoy dressing up and he will happily wear anything you put him in. (Not like Sky our Whippet who gives you "evils" if you even think of putting her in anything other than a sensible coat if it's cold or wet!)

One of our pups Alfie has gone to live with family that own a pug. They said that she is a great little dog but as a family they do a lot of walking and the pug struggles to cope. They find that they have to carry her or turn back when she starts to struggle. I have no idea how old she is

I adore pugs and would have one like a shot but Neil doesn't like dogs with tails curled up over their backs - says he doesn't want to look at a dog's bum all the time!!! (w00t)

We had a lovely walk on Boulmer beach last week with two pugs and their owner and they were GORGEOUS :wub: One of them was pretty nifty on his feet too and had a jolly good go at keeping up with Tina :lol: It was quite warm, even at 7am, so I was pretty alarmed at his panting afterwards but he just started swimming in the sea and soon cooled off! :lol:

Right, this evening I have hog-tied my 16 year old son and got him to "volunteer" to help me with the photos. I will not be beaten.

oh, we definitely need Pug puppy photos please! I love them (and Frenchies) - their little squished up faces.

My sister in law and her husband have one (Sidney!) - they taught him to retrieve and he likes to play football etc. I think (not that I have first hand experience) that as long as you don't over-exert them and of course don't take them out in the parts of the day that are hottest/warmest they should be fine.

(Why DO some people walk their dogs in the hottest part of the day, by the way???!!! Every time I see this, which is often, it puzzles me. Can these people not mentally put themselves in their dog's place for a few minutes, and then take their dog out when it's cooled down a bit?)

Why DO some people walk their dogs in the hottest part of the day, by the way???!!!  Every time I see this, which is often, it puzzles me.  Can these people not mentally put themselves in their dog's place for a few minutes, and then take their dog out when it's cooled down a bit?

I've often thought that too! :rant: Even with Tina having a lot of white on her and being reflective I won't taake her out whilst it's too warm. If it's a hot forecast I'll take her out first thing and then in the evening once it's cooled down and that way we BOTH enjoy our walk :thumbsup:

I'm not a hot weather person at all - I sweat up far too quickly and hate the feeling of being all sticky. It makes me all grumpy and snappy and not-a-nice-person :b Poor hubby gets it in this case (I'd never take it out on my dog!) :- "
