Hello everyone. My frenchie has an unplanned pregnancy (dad is my other frenchie). Before I'm told off please may I explain i did my best to keep them apart but it was during being down with covid. As doon as I realized I had her scanned and she is in her 3rd trimester. Fully developed skeletons and 6 pups. Vet thought about a week to go! I've been doing 3x temp checks daily and twice over the last 5 days its dropped significantly down to 36.1 but back up in the high 37s at next reading. Im concerned she is having a primary inertia so took her to the vets today and had a progesterone test done. Results came back at 12. Dhe is not nesting or panting. She is huge, aoes alot of standing and daydreaming, she has some clear vulva discharge, and shes producing milk. I have 2 questions please.
1. Does anyone know how quickly progesterone levels drop from 12 to 1?
2. If her temp drops were her trying for labour, can a progesterone level go back up after it has gone down. IE did we miss the drop to primary inertia and her levels are climbing again?
Of course its a bank holiday weekend so I won't get chance to have a second test done till Monday now. Any knowledgeable thoughts welcome thankyou.

Ah, don't they always do this on a public holiday?!

These are really questions you should ask your vet. Tomorrow (Saturday) isn't a Bank Holiday, so maybe text them now and phone them tomorrow with a view to bringing her in. Inertia is a possible problem, so she may need some oxytocin. Has she whelped before?

I never did scans or progesterone tests, but my bitches would vomit before they started serious labour. However none of them produced milk until they had started whelping. If it were my bitch I'd be wanting to talk to a vet. now, but maybe I am overcautious.

I did ask the vet, but she could not give definitive answers to some of my questions, sometimes in breeding matters, breeders have a vast amount of knowledge and more than a vets as they've done and seen many situations. To make matters more complicated, my frenchie has been on steroids for a back issue and had been in the process of being weaned off them. This complicates hormones and release of them, causing a possible delay or inability with whelping. Not knowing dates just creates the perfect storm of a situation. We can't c sec too early but primary inertia is a possibility too. Once I get my second progesterone reading on Monday we will know more, im just fretting and thought id post to see if anyone knowlegable had any thoughts. A plus is the pups are very active so a good sign.

No advice from me, but I just want to send good wishes for an easy labour and healthy puppies. Do please let us know how it goes. And if you have the time in the coming days, we would love to see puppy photos!
