Hi, :p I know some of us voted pre-entry out, but surely if we thought again and had it reinstated (for major events only) it would end having to wait 3 long hours before we can race our dogs... :0 now its only a thought , another topic of conversation, so dont get shirty dink(neil) ;) or do u like it the way it is.. ???  ???

pre entry would be ok provided the racers that pre entered turned up,but dont they still need to be weighed,i dont know how they used to do it, but how can they make the draw if they dont know proper weight of dogs, but yes it would be a good thing ,but not sure if it would make the racing any quicker, ban kickboards then racing will be over sooner.

It is hard work on the day booking in so many dogs. Which meant an early weigh in, voted in by the members. I would like to see pre entry voted back in. Pre entry was voted out by the members some because there dogs weighed in heavy and could not race. Others because of dogs being injured and bitches being in season. Some were put off knowing there was a first class dog in there first heat. I went one year knowing I had a five dog race only one other  dog turned up. Others in the same weight group were doimg solos because the programme could not be changed. So if pre entry was voted back in which would be better for everyone. how can we get rid of these problems. ANY IDEAS ???   ???

I know that the pre-entry system does have its drawbacks, but it is up to everyone to present their dog as they entered it, and you will never stop injuries effecting the system. My concern is that the full charge was levied at all dogs pre-entered and if through no fault of the owner he or she had to withdraw the dog then their money was lost. I think a part payment system would be fairer and pay the rest when you weigh in. Also Tanyia i would like to know who voted for the weigh in of up to 10 AM at the BWRA champs, I am a member and i was never ask about a 10 AM weigh in, only informed of it in the advert.

Hi, would it not be better to have to pre-enter your dog and then pay on the day of the race, this would allow for dogs that can not run due to seasons/injuries. dogs should be allowed to run in other heats rather than solo's . what are your views :D

I was not to keen on the pre entry system.  How many times have you heard that my scales weigh diffrent from theirs.  In a perfect world all scales would all weigh the same and although most do there are some exceptions.  Would it be fair if someone had traveled 12 hours to attend the championships to race and there dog was 1oz over the 1/4 pound was not allowed to race. At least on the day you can go in the weight group you are weighed for.  Its all very well to say that it is up to you to present your dog at the weight that you said it would be but for a number of reasons that may not be possible.  We all want to speed up the time it takes between weigh in and racing if only to keep from getting board so how about this for a suggestion.  During the weigh in you can buy a blank programme and when the weigh in is finished a public draw is made for the heats.  For example if there is 9 entered for a weight class you would have one heat of five probibly the first and one of four.  Each dog would have a number when weighed in 1st dog number 1 and so on then draw the numbers for the heats.  Seeded dogs would get there side on the order they are drawn and weight.  This would pass the time between the weigh in and the racing and stop some people saying the draws are fixed.  And as a bonus we would not have to wait for the programmes being printed so the racing would start quicker.  And as for the kick boards banning them would not make the racing quicker in my opinion.  How many times have you seen the people in the next race wait until they see the result of the current race before going to the traps.  Then when they are ready they wait to get there dog in last.  The only way round this is when the traps are ready and the lure is on the way down the trap man/woman tells them to get ther dogs in.  As for the weigh in time of 10.00am for the scales to come down it is okay for weekend events as most people are there as the finals are run the next day and the people who travel are local in most cases.  One day events should be 11.00am for the scales to come down at the earlyest.

There is simply no need for a 3hr wait between weigh-in and the start of racing - I suspect these delays and the resulting ridiculous early weigh-in`s are for ulterior motives.

Tony  have  you  ever  booked  that  many  excited  dogs  in.  Taken  the  money, seeded  sorted  and  written  out  the  programme   for  printing. What  ulterior  motives  is  there ???

yes we have and racing started an hour later.

A 3 hour wait is too long, it's ok if you caravan or camp cos at least you can go and have you're dinner/watch tv/have a beer etc but the people who have to set of at the crack of dawn to get there for an early weigh in and then have to hang around around for 3 hrs till something happens is a bit unfair :( , it seems to me that early weigh in's benefit campers not travellers....not every can, does or want to stay at opens ....why not make it fair for everyone, either start racing a bit sooner or bring back pre-entry, regardless of how many dogs excited they may be weighing in, does it still take 3 hours to do a programme?

michelle x(not tony!!!!!!!!)

Hi Michelle, I understand what you are saying. We prop. to bring back pre entry last year but voting went against.  ???

well i i carnt understand how it takes so long from weight_in your dogs in to the racing to start

i know that our local bwra reps ie alison porky ect have there own printing machine which takes them about 1/2 hour to write and copy out i have seen our  opens up and racing by 12.30 at the latest

maybe you should be looking at the person or persons doing all the work of weigh in and then having to do  every thing else if they were help out a little more than critisied then you may solve the problem you are complaining about

Denise

I wonder what your chances of being allowed to help out with the draw would be exactly?

As to the time between weigh-in and race start I agree  - we have all been to opens where the race started one hour after weigh-in, even though there were big turnouts, as this used to be the norm for all opens.

My help has never been refused no matter what I offer to help with Tony.

To answer John M. question. Pre entry was voted out year ending 98. early weigh in to start in 99 for all major events. before most of the present committee were in office. I have proposed pre entry be bought back twice since then. But it was voted against.   ;)

I personally don't like the idea of pre-entry because more than anything by the time some dogs have been crossed off / moved to a different heat etc you end up being confused by the programme before racing has even started.

At the BWRA str champs a couple of weeks ago Me & Michelle were the last to weigh in, at that point the programme was written out as the dogs had just been written straight onto the programme (which makes sense when they're all off scratch), so what is the excuse for taking 3 hours to photocopy the programmes ???

As for the early weigh in i agree with Michelle as it only suits the people who are caravanning, we have twelve dogs & 2 kids between us and would find it hard to stay over as much as we would love to.

Tanyia

Your honoured if you have been allowed to help with draw as most mere mortals don`t even get a chance to watch.

I don`t remember voting for a 10am weigh-in though, I thought we voted an 11am weigh-in to allow racing to start earlier.

Hi Tony, only going on the paper work I have it definatly says 10am. seems to be a patchy area   :)

Tanyia,

I`m quite probably wrong on the 10am start - but if you do have the original proposals, I personal would be glad if you would scan them and put them up on K9 to put my mind at rest.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Tony sorry I havnt got a scanner my pup pulled it down    I will try and get hold of my sons at the weekend.   :D  The other half is in hospital at the moment so everything is a bit of a rush , what with dogs and visiting. I  will see what I can do   :D

I've just had a look in my BWRA rule book...additional rules 2002/2003 state " All national BWRA events weigh in till 11am" surely the champs is a national event, so why did we only have a weigh in till 10am? did the BWRA break there own rule?.

That extra hour means alot to people travelling along way to events.
