So sorry to hear about Kai, Tina , but agree with Dessie about Glucosamine and Chondroitin - it was absolutely fantastic with my old dog's hips and my Dad swears by it for his back problems too! :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

Caroline, No he has not given him Rimadyl. Tatal treatment was £30 with the tabs

Where do i find Healthspan? As i would like to get theses medicines as soon as possible.

But what about the gap he has found along his spine (sorry about the wording not sure how to explain it).

Sorted out his coats jumpers and so on.

Im thinking of putting him in a very large cage at night now in our bedroom as i dont want him to keep jumping on and off the bed in the night.

Kai has been before and hates it, going to take him tommorow.

Tess used to hate it (and me for taking her there :rant: ), but having gone twice a week for several months I have never seen her so alive. She still finds it really really boring, but puts up with it- I think that she knows it helps.

Just caught up with this thread. I'm really sorry to hear about Kai (same name as my youngest Grandson,) I think the advice you have received on K9 is probably the best you could have got anywhere.

Sorry to butt in, and to hear about Kais' back, but I have got problems with one of my dogs and wondered if someone had any advice. My 5 year old Mini Wire Dachshund has developed a painful back. There is no paralasis, she hunches it a bit and occasionally squeeks if you lift her slightly twisted. It started off with a reluctance to go for a walk, not like her at all, and some discomfort. The vet has put her on a weeks supply of Norocarp and advised rest. If she doesn't improve we move on to X-rays. Anyway, sorry to ramble, but could I use the same Glucosamine and Chondroitin tablets on her as she is obviously a lot smaller than a Whippet (5kg). It's very distressing to see her not happy, I haven't had any problem with backs before, my other three are fine, they are not encouraged to jump off furniture and don't go up and down stairs. They aren't fat and are kept very fit. Reading the books it seems likely to be calcification of the discs which could be herditary. I would be very grateful for any advice.

Hi Karen, Sorry to hear about your little dog Dessie is the person for backs, Im sure she could help you.

:blink: Ive made a decision today, after getting a phone call this morning about the same problem with a whippet. I have asked my vet to be reffered so at least i can get him scaned. Then i will know what can be done then.

Im just really worried he keeps crying, and is just mopeing around i cant sit back and watch him its to upsetting.

I will post when we have our appointment.

Heck Tina only just spotted this!

Really sorry Kai's had a relapse, brings it back now when both of ours was suffering and how hopeless we felt seeing our dogs in pain. Got everything crossed for a speedy recovery for Kai :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

Back from the vets, Kai has a problem with his spine. (excuse some spellings)
He has a gap in his spine just where his loin area is,where also he has damaged ligaments.

He has had a injection into this gap and also has tablets called (seraquin)

He is to have these for 1 month, Then go back for a check up if there is still a problem then he will go for a scan in Hertford.

Then they will operate on his spine.

John would like to try the tablets first but is unsure if they will work but there is a chance.

Kai is to be kept quite no running no jumping only slow lead work, this is hard how do you tell a whippet it cant do these things.As for him being thin he said he isnt he looks in fit condition
