she said that she has a split disc and lots of bruising on spinal cord , kay & rob will pick her up tomorrow :)

The vet said that she has to have lots of rest, and she should make a good recovery, but her racing days are over. :(

Glad to hear Flo will be feeling better soon :flowers:

Thanks to everyone for their good wishes. It has been quite a traumatic day for us as you can guess. Flo has seen the orthopaedic specialist in Solihull and she had a milogram (?) this evening where a dye is injected into the spine to show up any blockages.

She has a slipped disc in the middle of her back along with bruising on the spinal cord and torn membranes. The vet says that rest is the only thing for now and depending on how she is tomorrow they may let her back home, then hopefully, over the next one or two weeks she will begin to get some use back in her back legs though till then will need to support her for everything.

She has never spent a night away from us before but we know she is in the right place for now.

Sorry we didn't get to see the rest of the races. Thank you so much to everyone who came up to help us, packing things away for us and giving first aid and phone no's, and also to Jill's husband who very kindly drove in front of us to the local vets.

Please keep your fingers crossed for Flo.

Hi Rob and Kay

So sorry to hear of Flo's accident (?) don't know obviously what actually happened as we weren't there but do know that you will be so upset. We send you all our good wishes and know that you will give Flo all the attention she will need, just the sort of nightmare we all dread with the dogs. Glad all rallied round to help you. See you soon at the Indi.

Love Alli and Ian, Jazz and Dixie.

Flo is back home, - we collected her this morning and are now trying to get into some kind of routine, including remembering to eat!

She is fairly bright but a bit whiney, and she has been eating and drinking OK with a bit of coaxing. We have been told to lift her as little as possible, so we are still trying to work out the best procedure for getting her outside for toilet stops, with a rigged up harness to support her back legs which she still has no use in at present. Sometimes we have missed the signs and got a good 'soaking' so the house is 'delicately perfumed' now!

The x-rays showed that she has a ruptured disc in the centre of her back. We have to do physiotherapy on her back legs 6 times a day, so in between turning her every two hours and toileting, there really is no time for anything else. It is 24hr. nursing, but we love her and will do everything we can to try and help her recover.

She has to go back to the specialist in 4 weeks time probably for another x-ray, depending on how things are going.

We had a scary moment this afternoon when the postman came and she made a lunge to rush to the door as usual and give him a good barking at, - luckily we grabbed her front end just in time. The postman now knows to leave the post in a box in the porch!

Thanks so much to everyone for all your support and phonecalls etc. If anyone reading has personal experience of a dog with this kind of injury we would be very grateful if you could pm us, - we are so new to all of this.

Kay. :)
