Plea For Help! My Dog Has Started Biting People And I Don't W

Good luck with this, muzzle sounds like a good idea.

I got the Whippet in my avatar from JR Whippet rescue in 1996, he'd been given up because of aggression problems / bit a young child in the house. It was soon clear that he loved play fighting so I suspect the previous owners had encouraged that behaviour. Obviously I turned my back on him the moment he started to play fight from then on. I also did the little things to continually show who's boss such as always going through door first. He did get a lot better though always retained an aggressive streak with other dogs that I had to control. Here's the thing though, he was and will always be the best whippet I've ever had. Good luck with yours, I'm sure perseverance will pay off.

I don't understand all this. Having had whippets since 1960s and been involved with them since the 1950s, aggression has never been a problem. There has to be a reason for this behaviour and it can either be in the blood lines or training and lack of socialisation.

We didn't have " behaviourists" then, common sense prevailed.

Something must have gone wrong somewhere with the breed.

Perhaps it is the way we live now, being wary of strangers etc and the dog picks up on this.

I do think that today people take on a dog of any breed with no knowledge of dogs and how they behave, the future dog owner needs ti know what he or she is taking on.

This applies to whippets and all breeds.
