Petition to ask airlines to allow larger dogs in the cabin

Hi, everyone.

I'm new to this forum and would like to see if other dog owners would like to be able to fly with their beloved canines on commercial flights. Without putting them in the hold, I mean.

What do you think? Should airlines allow pets of all sizes to fly in the passenger cabin? Maybe we can get British Airways to start allowing this, and then build momentum and other airlines will follow suit?

Don't think there would be room unless, of course you bought the dog a seat. I think I have heard of airlines in America allowing dogs to travel in the passenger cabins on internal flights. Not sure if the owner bought the dog a seat though.

I have read that dogs under a certain weight, in a carrier, can go under the seat in front in some airlines. I'm sure I read about someone taking a dog from Edinburgh to the USA in the cabin. It's a good idea in principle but I'd worry about long haul flights. Presumably assistance dogs are able to travel in the cabin?

Yes, some airlines allow small dogs in the passenger cabin if they fit in a carrier under a seat. But if it were ever necessary to travel with a dog that can't go in a carrier in the seat in front of you, it would be great to have an option to take larger dogs into the passenger cabin. Mainly out of concern for the safety of the animal. In 2014, airlines reported 17 pet deaths, 26 pet injuries and two lost pets. In 2013, the numbers were equally frightening, with 21 deaths, 15 injuries and 6 lost. Anyway, I'm sure many details would need to be worked out, but if you're interested, please sign the petition.
