Someone has started a petition to ask for the pet passport scheme to be reintroduced. For those of you who are not familiar, instead of the pet passport, owners now have to obtain an animal health certificate to take pets out of the UK, at considerable extra cost (£100 to £150), for every trip.

This is as well as the checks that were in place prior to Brexit, which (quite rightly) still have to be done - microchipped, a valid rabies vaccine and worming prior to re-entry.

The previous system worked really well, so if anyone could see fit to sign the petition, those of us who travel with our pets would be really grateful.

Petition: Seek to rejoin the EU pet passport scheme

Reintroduction of the pet passport would require the UK to renegotiate and agree to being part of the EU Vet agreement and EU animal trading agreement as it is all tied up so that includes many other EU rules/regulations regarding live animals which the UK are not prepared to accept.

I have to say I agree with you and that part of the agreement, but even within the UK countries is is now an issue as pet passports are still a part of Northern Ireland re the 'protacol' so people there can still use the pet passports to travel within the EU but also require pet passports now to travel to Britain and also the health cert to travel back from Britain with the pets they took.
