Hi. Could anyone on this forum who owns dogs (or cats) please fill out this survey, it's for my dissertation and I would be so grateful to get as many people as possible to fill it out.

Thank You

You haven't allowed for people who don't use flea treatments at all

Can I ask what you would use if you had to dogmatize?

I would use a shampoo. Either pennyroyal or I would add essential oils to a basic shampoo.

I am lucky in that there are no cats near us which used to be our main source of fleas.

If I had a problem with fleas I would also feed things that are naturally repellent. I think there are food additives and treats commercially available.

An acquaintance of mine uses diatomaceous earth. I think you brush it through the coat and it kills fleas. I am going to do some more research as my dog is quite sensitive to flea treatments.

Like you we rarely see fleas but our friends' dog often has them and I am sure we brought some home from their house once. I gave my dog Bravecto but it did not agree with him. I am sure it sorted the fleas though :)

Yes I have some diatomaceous earth. I've used it to try to remove harvest mites. It cuts insects up into little bits. As soon as I opened the bottle I realised that this was what we used to use as flea powder in the 60's and 70's when we had cats. I remember it coming in a green and cream coloured puffer bottle- must have inhaled plenty of it as a child! Apparently it's so safe you can eat it.

I think the main thing is to not let the house get infested. My husband was going to finish a little plumbing job for someone when he got a call to say the house was infested with fleas! It was so bad that the family had to move out and have the house fumigated. Soft furnishings all had to be dumped including sofas and beds. The people used to be dog breeders and had a "dog room". It was in this room that my husband had started to work and take out an old sink unit etc. He had disturbed the long dormant flea eggs and they had all hatched out!

Thank you all for your feedback and participation, I apologise for any missing options within the survey and will rectify this asap :)
