Peppermint Pets

I've got a spare shed and wanted to make a big run and get some rescue battery hens - hubby says hens and whippets=not good idea. Please give me some evidence to the contrary!! No problem keeping them where we live as a neighbour has them as well.
I know Jo's whippets (including the pups) are all content to potter in the garden with the chickens - supervised of course!

All of ours are keen rabbiters but they certainly no that the chickens are not for chasing. :)

my garden is split in two, the dogs have the top and elisha and other furry/feathers have the bottom

i think my whippets would chase the hens or even eat them (w00t) having said that the hens come close to the fence and the dogs just look, they had more interest in the bunny  the hens dont seem to have any fear of the dogs at all...but then i dont think the hens are all that bright

whippets and hens...they soon get used to each other...never leave them together though...whippets are more interested in chicken poo yuk

where do you get your fertile eggs from?

i cant have a cockerel...i think the peeps in the street would have a fit... (w00t)

the frizzle is brilliant she is sooo friendly    as are both polish, im not keen on the peking ive got...shes very bossy and flighty around the garden, i hope she starts laying soon so shes at least earning her keep!

our own pekin had laid her own eggs which had been fertyilised by the cockeral...and theres a place just on the farington RD which sell different breeds of chickens, so when i was passing i popped in ,just to ask... they dont usually sell fertilised eggs but he gave me the three at £1 an egg, he was just going to put them into his incubator..i think its called 'seven acres nursery'

but they have lots of young chicks/pullets/older ones/cockerals

maybe your pekin needs a male friend to get her in the mood...they suppose to be good for going broody then you can rear your own chicks

ive just spoken to my friend and she is collecting over the next 2 days silkie x peking eggs, by saturday she will have 3 so i will go and collect them, we have now moved mums silkie Martha into her own quarters and put 2 "normal" eggs under her we will see if she stays on them then put the fertile eggs in there place on saturday and wait and see :D

well why not have this peking hen for unrelated company for your chap?
