Opinions on Poop Scoopers? Any alternatives?

How useful is a poop scooper?

  • useless

  • would be useful if it actually functions

  • already quite useful

I recently came across a couple of poop scoopers on Amazon and am considering purchasing one for my granny, who suffers from low blood pressure and back ache. She feels dizzy when she has to bend over to pick up the poo. And unfortunately we don't live together so I can't help her either.

However, the reviews for the poop scoopers on Amazon do seem to be quite negative. What do you guys think of them? How do you poop scoop? Any suggestions for helping elderly dog owners (other than getting a dog walker)?

The only thing I can think of is some kind of litter picker with 2 little scoopers attached instead of the grippers. Sounds a bit extreme, but if you can't bend down then im not sure what else you could do.

Does she have a garden? It might be easier to retrain the dog to poo in a corner there, maybe even on a raised section if you can get someone to build a platform that you could gravel or turf. Then she wouldn't have to bend. If the dog can poo in the garden but not on a raised section, could someone come and clear it every few days (if not you, maybe a dog walker - it wouldn't cost much for a five minute visit every few days rather than walks).

Try googling, if you haven’t already, poop scoopers for disabled owners, as there are people on mobility scooters taking their dogs out these days. Also might be worth trying specific forums that have older and less mobile contributors, who are bound to have experience of this problem, and maybe some really good solutions. :)
