MOVEMENT

and because many people don't understand the basic physics of movement.

Too wide coming and going is a fault (the pooey pants syndrome - going away) under the laws of physics it isn't correct and there will be compensation for it elsewhere. Yet MANY whippet experts with many years in the breed want this wide movement which they call "parallel". At a walk yes - fine - at the trot it's a definite no-no.

If I have to` parade out `at work (I work at Nottm Greyhound Stadium, usually in the office )or do paddock duty , my `judging ` cap comes on and Im appalled at some of the movement
Cow hocks , plating , toeing in, to name but 3 but run they can and one of the worst ive seen regually wins `open `races .A very `mincey` mover too

So maybe what we see at the trot dosnt mean as much as we thought it did .  ;)
Yes fair comments. But I still think although these dogs may win now & in open class. They will break down at an earlier age.

Any animal that is not confirmed to the standard for that animal will suffer if pushed to the limits.

I have been to the doggies, not often, but have been known. I saw a Greyhound win with straight pastons. Everytime it's legs hit the ground, just think of the shudder that must run up the leg & into the shoulder. Damage, damage, damage etc.

On the day it won, & has been placed several times. But a long term prospect for a true champion???????? Dont think so.

The other thing not going in it's favor was the fact it was a FAWN. :- "

Now this is the stuff I wanted to know about!!!!!!

The reasons behind whippet movement. While I can take most to task about gundog movement I need to understand WHY I a whippets should move in the manner that it does when translated back to its origins or current usages (other than thoroughly deliteful pet). What was the whippet body originally designed to be able to do/withstand and for how long. Thus I would need more info to understand why a judge would require a firm footfall and just exactly how firm.

 me again sorry! Had you been a spectator at SKC you would have been left wondering if movement meant anything at all. Some of the bitches were bigger than the dogs and some of the dogs looked like small greyhounds. I really think that on the day faces came first. I have been in whippets for a long time and have stood at the ringside and wondered how some of these decisions are made. I will probably know most of the people who post on the board but have only recently joined the 21st century and linked up to the net. I am so glad I can have my say without being outcast for saying what I.m sure the most of you think.

Go ahead Zolan - say what you think - that's what we're here for - to voice an opinion. As long as you voice it calmly without malice and with respect for other's opinions then everything will be fine. Oh ... you'll get howled down occasionally ... I do ... even when I've thought very carefully about how to express my opinion without it sounding offensive or aggressive ... but hey! You get that. We all seem to be able to stay friendly in the end - which is why I like this place. :p
