Hello everyone,
Can anyone help? Morgan seems to be suffering from allergies . He has sticky eyes most mornings and sneezes quite often. I clean them with warm boiled water but it sometimes come back during the day.
The vet has recommended expensive drops and med but also said i can use hypromellose 0.3%eye drops wich i use what he lets me.
Both my dogs have a grain free diet and treats an is fed Wolftucker complete raw diet and have supplements of Omega 3-6-9.
They also have pieces of apple, bananas, celery cucumber, sweet red pepper, gem lettuce, raw carrots and broccoli as an afternoon snack. My vet think that they have a varied and balanced diet.
They're healthy with glossy soft coats and a good appetite. apart from Morgan's allergy. Can anyone suggest home remedies. I prefer a holistic approach as opposed to chemicals which is a last resort for me.
Morgan's brother (litter mate) no allergies whatsoever.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Lennor.

I think then you need to track down what he is reacting to so you can avoid it. Do you feed chicken? It's a common allergen.

You would really need to find out what is causing it if you can, to eliminate if possible. Laundry products, cleaning products, dust mites, grass or pollen are all also contenders. Has it just started, has anything in the environment changed?

He has lamb, beef and chicken. We've been feeding single meat food for 3wks in rotating and it's not diet. I did think of chicken so fasted him for 24 then removed chicken for a month. No change. This only started early March so maybe summer alleges?
I thank you for your thoughtful response.

Hi Joanne ,
This has started early March. I have oak floors washed with water and Fairy non bio detergent. I don't use too many chemical around the house because of my allergies. The vet suggest antihistamines but I don't really want to go there. I am surrounded by trees in various stages of bloom.
Perhaps like my son and i he suffers from hay fever. Some days are better than others for Morgan.
Thanks for your information

Judy,
This is a wonderful article, i will research the recommended products. I remember back in the early 70's training as a district midwife some of the grandmothers recommending oatmeal baths for babies with heat rash ect. Good old wives remedies they were too
Thanks again for sending the link

Have a look at nettles, they are a natural anti-histamine and suitable for dogs, either in raw, dried or tablet form, but obviously check dosages, also use an air purifier indoors maybe..

I've noticed Morgan in the nettles on occasion. Maybe I'll try cooled nettle water. Actually I will buy the herb tea a dilute with cold water. Thanks Flobo

I am no expert but I am pretty sure that is not long enough to find out. Can you try to find a novel protein, like grain free kangaroo, and feed that for at least 6 weeks, then add something else such as chicken for up to 6 weeks (if the allergy recurs you know it is chicken) then take out the chicken and add beef etc. until you see what is the trigger.

Lennor Magill, sorry I cant offer any advice, but just want to say the title caught my attention, I wondered how a dog could be alergic to the wonderful car a Morgan Aero 8.

Morgen was named for my other greyhound who was deliberately killed by a hit and run . He was the offspring of Tyro Ted a racer .We never raced him but he was lighting fast even at 3 month old when we got him so hence the name of Morgan Aero sleek and fast as the car. Thanks for your delightful post. This Morgan is from show dog stock but like his name sake he's just our dearly loved pet.

Hi Joanne, I will take you advice, I might add that Morgan has been eating chicken from 8wks when we got him. He's now 21 maths and started with his allergies in early March. However you've made a good point and i will give it a try. He's a fussy eater and will not eat anything gamey. Duck ,turkey, venison, tripe ,rabbit , he just won't eat it his favourite being lamb , beef and chicken. I will take chicken away for for 6-7 weeks then reinstate for a further 5-7 wks and see what happens .Thanks again for great advice
