HI folks im new to the forum,My name is Chris,

We have a 3 year old mini Dachshund ,about a week ago she started acting funny and her back leg was not supporting her weight ( she is not overweight) plus she went into a trance and just wonder around so we took to the emergency vet who said it could be linked to her back and may have hurt something as she is very active. They prescribed pain killers to see her through the night, when we saw our normal vet she examined her and said the same thing so carry on with the pain killers plus the antibiotics and if it does not improve they said a scan would be required. At the moment she is the same ok when the drugs have kicked but goes a bit funny when they wear off ,just staring, vibrating and pacing around sometimes panting, apparently this means they are in pain.We are hoping that the scan will be done in the next couple of days.Lucky we insured them (we have two ) Ijust wondered if anyone has had or knows anything about this problem as Dr google can be very misleading and puts bad thoughts in peoples minds. Many thanks Chris.

If there's no real improvement then if it was me I would get an X-ray of the back and the leg. Back problems can be an issue in dachshunds, but if it seems to be the leg there could be other issues. Better safe than sorry

Hi folks only found out the results yesterday, firstly she had blood tests and x-rays that suggest something was not quite right, plus she had a small amount of blood in her urine not that we could see it as it showed up on test,so she also had an urinary tract infection that was causing high temp etc.Anyway on Tuesday she had a scan that showed a couple of discs were slightly out and an operation to correct it was advised so she goes in on Monday as leaving it will cause more problems later. He also said that after 3 years there spine dries up so not much lubrication there. Most people think they have long backs but in fact its because they have short legs that are not very good for leaping around etc. Will keep you all posted. Thanks Chris ( Honeys dad l.o.l. )

I'm glad you found the problem (though sorry it involves surgery). It's a shame that this has happened so young :( Best of luck on Monday and hope it all goes smoothly. Thanks for updating us
