Medication / flea control

With the various number of internet suppliers and various prices for the same product, how do we know if we are purchasing genuine medications / treatments made and supplied by genuine manufactures, or could we be buying "fake" stuf ??

Good question. It's something that has always concerned me too, although I believe there are some sites with a good reputation like vet-medic and vetuk.

Could this be why products such as Frontline get so many bad reports for not working these days ?

I think I read fleas had developed a resistance to the active ingredient in Frontline. My vet now prescribes Frontline Combo so I assumed that is an improved product to get round the fleas' tolerance.

I get mine from the vets, can't remember the name.  I've been advised not to use off-the-shelf stuff from a couple of sources, which might even include this fine forum (would need to check).  I suppose with most drugs and rapid-reproducing creatures, the build up of a resistance is inevitable, much like humans are beginning to find with antibiotics.

It is possible to buy proper veterinary products online though - sometimes with a prescription that a get will charge for. That said i read the other day that counterfeit Frontline was featured on Fake Britain recently.

So that sort of answers my first post here, and maybe that is why there are so many reports of it not working very well these days!

I wonder how many other counterfeit products there are out there.
