I am interested in finding out the breeding of a bitch called mallory who was the dam of the great stud Mr Benn(good as gold+mallory), Mr benn was owned by steve+julie bateson, this appears in most of our breeding but where does it come from?

Any info no-matter how trivial is welcome

When we first got Kit i was also flumoxed when i got to Mallory (i take it your looking on Maddisons side - i wondered why i never got a pedigree with Ella!!!) but searched and searched and found the breeding in a whippet news from when Mr Benn won the top ten.  As far as i can make out Mallory was only a club bitch as she isn't featured in any opens in old whippet news's.  I have got a bit of the breeding but off the top of my head can't remember the rest when i go to my mums tomorrow i will get it off Kit & Ella's pedigree (god i do sound organised don't I?) Breeding as follows:

                                                           Lone Eagle

                                       Fawn Eagle

                                                           Brown Eagle

                 Smoke Ring

                                                           Blue Peter

                                       Smokey Girl

                                                           Blackie

Mallory

                 Bee Gee

Smoke Ring was owned by old racer Keith Robinson and a massive stud fee of £10 was charged!!!! There are pictures in whippet news of Keith with a t-shirt on with AT STUD SMOKE RING written on it which i found quite ammusing and thought about asking Chris to print it in whippet news!!!!

As you have probably seen i am searching for info on a dog called yellow rose from around about 1975 and i found some interesting articles along the way, some really cool photos, i will try and get some pics scanned.

Oh and by the way computer is working!!!!!!!!

Failed to mention BIG!!!! thanks to vicky for mallory's breeding(anorak!!)

if i am not mistaken Mallory belonged to John Connor who up till last year was still the owner of Gold Runner sadly he packed up racing he also bread Rch Sonar Gold Spell and a little bitch i own called Crystal Bay  John was racing whippets back in the 1960s when the other dog someone was trying to trace was running the dog was a rag dog and a very good one called Yellow Rose it raced at the Lancaster WRC up tapes to the rag and never to the lure also running at that time was Remus i think it was from the Stockport area we used to have challenge races with that club the man who owned Yellow Rose was called Harold Olliphant and was a builder later on his dogs included Rch Sportman  Tarquin

Rossette and Bantemweight to name but a few he was a big mate of Danny Kirby who had a bitch called Spike at the time and recently owned Lanagan which was no slouch as i am sure you most know Ollie was the most sucessful of dog owners proir to Steve and Julie Bateson he also owned a greyhound called Kingsize along with a bookie called Jack Noon they lost a small fortune gambling on it hope this is of some use i think Ollies wife Jean is still alive and living in Morecambe

Cheers for that Steve, i had found a bit about Yellow Rose/Blondie but had come to a stand still, i'm sure Billy, Ollie's nephew will read his thread and will b made up.

Cheers once again

Pleasure Vicky i have just been looking through some old programes early 1960.s and see there was a dog called Gypsy in the same heat as Yellow Rose getting 9yrds with front dog Windmill Lad getting 15and a half yards this was Stockport-v-Lancaster at Crosshill Park show there was 15 six dog heats 1st and 2nd grade racing pity they dont grade dogs now it would make it a lot fairer for people with club dogs to enter. The reason i mentioned Gypsy it might not be the same dog but there was someone asking about one with that name on one of the threads the other day it was not a Lancaster dog hope this helps  steve

It would be great if they still graded like you say it would give the hundreds of not open class dogs a chance, most people tend not to take their club dogs to opens for the fact that they're not good enough (us included) thus the club dogs losing out on the chance of a run:(, after all they're not bothered whether they win or not.

I also see what you mean when you say you don't know whether it's the same Gypsy, as i have mentioned i was looking in back copies of wn's for Yellow Rose & Yorkee Boy and came across quite a few dogs (not the above)with the same names but obviously not the same dog as they had different breeding.  There's also all those that had loads of names so that the bookies couldn't keep on top of them!!!!  When my grandad tells me some of the names they used to come up with(bearing in mind he & his brother had about 6 dogs at the time) it makes me wonder how they remembered which of their own dogs ran under what name.

Vicky

Ps have you had your op, How are you feeling??

Dear Vicky and Steve, thanks for all the info about my uncle Harold and his dogs. As I mentioned before I was only young during his whippet racing career and lived in the north east at that time so new very little about it. However since returning to my home town just after Harolds death and keeping whippets I am very interested to find out as much as possible. It has been a great insight to get all the information you have given me so far , THANKS. As Steve said my Aunty Jean Ollies wife is still alive but not a good mixer and I have had little contact with her since my Uncles death, unfortunately. Its a bit of a family thing, but it makes it awkward to approach her for information. So a BIG THANKS TO THESE FORUMS AND STEVE AND VICKY>

hi Vicky ,its Andy Bee Gee was bred from a dog called Darley Fly and a bitch called Odessa if you need more information contact Malcolm Clarke.

Just having a flick through.. This is an old one isn't it?

The fella who had Odessa has been to watch at Gin Pit a few times this year & he was absolutely stunned to find out that so many of todays dogs went back to his bitch (through Mr Benn), even more so when i started to point a few out at the club. What's even better is he's looking to get back into racing shortly. :D

Talk about a small world!!!

Bloody hell-this definately is an old thread! I was thinking that Steve had had another op.which he hadn't told me about  but then saw the 2002 date!
