I am trying to get further background information, but someone - I think from http://www.paws.ie - has posted numerous photos at the PetsIreland website of a group of over 2 dozen dogs - mostly short-coated lurchers and terriers (both smooth and wire, Jack Russell and Patterdale type), also at least one spaniel I think - and they are trying to find the owners of these dogs.

Photos are at

Have posted this information and photos onto alfieslostdogs as these dogs could have come from anywhere, I do hope their owners or homes are found !!!

they were found in Co Kilkenny but may have come from various places far afield - a message at petsireland says crossposting is welcome

paws in Kildare is not directly involved, but if anyone thinks they see their missing dog in the pictures, PAWS can be contacted for further info.

several foster and rescue places may soon be needed if the authorities agree to release the dogs to carers

I still don't have a very clear picture of what's going on. The latest I heard is that the dogs were taken off some travellers and that the travellers will probably get the dogs back if it doesn't turn out that they rightfully belong to other people. Only some of the dogs have been scanned for microchips, I don't know why they haven't all been (apart of course from the very young pups). anyway, the message is still to look at the photos and get in touch if you think any dog might be one you lost or if you know of any missing dog closely resembling one in the photographs.

has anyone posted on lurcherlink, giving links to the petsireland photos?

(one restriction has been put on crossposting, please don't put on any sites which advertise dogs for sale)

update is that 8 of these dogs are returned, and the rest is to be destroyed, a phone campaign is being organised to try and stop this unneccessary destruction of healthy dogs :(

www.afarireland.org spoke to these people..

bernie Spoke to KCC and they ARE going to kill the majority of these Greys and terriers despite many rescues offering to take the dogs, Quote jim Ryan KCC ‘we may be challenged as travellers sought legal advice’. We have to ‘stand over it’ reffering to ‘anything we do’.

Bernie

PLEASE CONTACT THE COUNCIL NOW

to the best of my knowledge, the campaign has been successful; the dogs will be sent to rescue kennels rather than being killed
