Lucy

Lovely dogs all of them, bet you cant wait for TANK - hes adorable.

Lots of photos ( but I wont be able to help being a bit jealous) :- " hes so gorgeous. :huggles:

lucy won her 525yds race at armadale tonight and will now run in the final next monday probably.

Well done to Lucy  . Im going to try and get there next Monday, if I can get a baby and puppy sitter (w00t) (w00t)

i will post on here if it is monday or not as they may put the race on this thursday, the daily record keep spelling her name wrong! she is called aimee but they spell it amy,she had also qualified for a final at corbiewood last night but we withdrew her as it was a sprint race and the distance is far too short, when she ran at armadale she came from about 8 lengths behind the leader to get up on the line, when the weather gets better we may try her over 6 bends.

I did look in the Daily Record and thought they had miss spelt her name. What is the race called she is entered into. We hope to get there next monday but maybe Thursday is she is racing. Good luck with her and keep us informed about how she is doing :)

its just a 525 handicap but you need to qualify for a final-just a good way for the track to fill races without paying prize money.

susan were do you go to in bathgate to train robbie? do you just slip him to someone with a rag or do you use a lure?

do you train him on his own or do you meet up with anyone else with whippets?

cheers dougie & liz

Hi,,We go to Bathgate Sport's Centre,,We have trap's and a lure. I run my 2 together but other's come along also. We wont start up till the light night's come and it's a bit warmer. Kirkcaldy start's this Saturday if this snow goes :( .

lucy runs tonight at armadale in the last race, running off scratch giving away 4yds,she is giving a dog that also won its heat 3yds of a start even though she was only half a length faster than it on monday!-maybe the other one is owned by a friend of the handicaper :- "

How did Lucy do ?. Mototos are you thinking about training Tank to go whippet racing :- " :- " ,,I hope you do give it a try :D . It's nothing like greyhound racing though as all our dogs TRY :- " :- " . We hope to still have Bathgate this year but the council keep moving us around and it could be Livingston Sport's Centre at Craigshill ... It's just as good though (w00t) Good luck with Lucy

well lucy only managed 3rd ,she was out the traps ok but ran into the back of trap 5 at the second bend when in a good position however she was passed by a dog on the run in and that is unusual as she stays strong-but we havent been able to gallop her due to the snow and frost so that maybe the reason, she was a little dehydrated aswell-i think the radiators being on more than normal due to the cold maybe the reason for this-radiators cause dry air-not good for racing greyhounds!,just hope she perks up as she is entered into the race at cheltenham-but she will stay at home if not ok.

 Dougie & Liz

hi there, lucy is still a wee bit quiet this morning and we have just spoken to the guy who is organising the cheltenham race and he wants the dogs to run in a qualifying heat this sunday and then run the semis next saturday then the final the following tuesday and we do not feel it would be fair on lucy to ask her to run this sunday-so we will not be going for the race with them-we are so down about it all as we have waited for this race for a year now and will not be able to take part-but the dogs health has to come first.

cheers Dougie & Liz.

:( A few years back I missed almost 3 month's of racing due to my 2 dog's both being injured at the same to. I missed the Scottish Derby, and was looking forward to the dog's racing in it. Who do you take your racing grey's to when you think they are injured ?. I know there used to be a bloke at the Dale but he does not come now :(

susan,me and liz have been in greyhound racing since we were kids and both worked for greyhound trainers and so we were taught how to check for injuries ourselves-so we check our dogs out-i would not pay someone to do a job we can both do ourselves!

 Dougie.

She look's a picture  . Wish I could figure out what the hell is wrong with Ricky. He on 3 leg's are very sore. I have just given him some Metacam for the pain. He never walk's on 3 leg's so must be sore :( . Going to give him till Monday and see if he get's any better

its very simple to check what area is sore,at least that will give you some idea of what the problem is-is it front or back leg?

stand over him and start at the bottom, look at his nails, then his pads-give them a wipe over one at a time to see if there is any problems-if not its each toe one at a time gently flex each one inwards, then its the wrist again flex inwards gently, then stretch his shoulders firstly upwards as if he was giving you a paw, then outwards holding his elbow and stretching his leg gently as if he was pointing at something in the distance, then with your hand on his leg flex backwards going inside his back leg towards his inner thigh and always look for signs of pain as they dont all cry-some just change facial expressions! while others try to take your hand off-our clyde is like that-huge but a big sissy!.

get him standing proud then step back and take a look at him from a little distance because if it is a muscle problem there may be a little swelling that only looks visable when compared to the muscle on the opposite side.

hope this helps,if not just let us know if we can help ok.

cheers Dougie.

Thank's Dougie :) , I have checked him over and I think the pain is coming from his foot (metatarsal).. I did think it was his wrist again but he bending it no bother. John stretched his shoulder and he was fine. I put a bit of presher on his foot and he gave a little cry. So I think this is where his problem is.

I can't understand how, as he was sound after the racing,,only 2 hand slip's and it took John over an hour to get home from Kirkcaldy, he was sound when he got home,,only to go on 3 leg's about 1 hour after getting home. The poor lad is in pain,,so if he no better by Monday I will take him to the vet, and see what he say's. I had better win the bloody lottery (w00t)

if it is a bone problem an x-ray maybe the safe option,we have had greyhounds race and walked sound when getting back to the kennel but lame when we went to let them out in the morning-adrenalin-(probably the wrong spelling!) is an amazing pain killer.

I hope he is ok-it is sometimes possible to find the exact point of the problem by running your thumb down each individual bone-i hope its nothing to bad-or expensive!

what vet do you use? have you ever used bone radial? if we have a dog break a hock after the strapping comes of we use this stuff on them, helps to aid healing in bone injuries.

p.s. where is riggs going for his innoculations? how much are they charging?

Quite often soft tissue and joint problems seem worse after rest, so from what you've said he could have a strain. You know yourself I'm sure how much worse a strain hurts after not moving the affected bit for a while! Keep us posted, and I'm hoping he'll be fine for you :luck:
