You also have to remember that some guard breeds especially rotties only care about protecting you. Im on several Rottie facebook groups and its well known on the group that rotties have no interest in protecting the house there are many stories of rotties allowing the house to get burgled but once the owners there its a whole other storie they then protect the owner. At the end of the day they dont care about TVs and expensive jewellery.
Also one owner recently has told us ( im in the UK just so you know) on the group that they were upstairs alseep someone broke into the house and there rottie guarded them upstairs growling at the intruder warning him to not come upatairs but he did so there Rottie attacked him , the police arrived and attested him , however days later there rottie was taken too under the dangerous dogs act and was assessed , luckily he was assesed as friendly and was just protecting his owners.
But the thief was able to sue them for £10k compensation as he had to have his left leg amputated below the knee.
They never trained him at all to do this and he was trained and well socialized, he was an amazing example of the breed and was an assistant dog to his female owner but the guard trait is strong in rotties. I have met this rottie on many occasions both before and after this incident and hes a big softie and loves attention but like a majority of rotties he fine provided your good and ok and dont plan on harming him or his owner.
So this has to be kept in mind that some of these dogs have guarding in there DNA and even without training could still harm an intruder so you could get sued or worst loose your dog.
