Ligament damage

We saw our own vet today - she recommends surgery. Which is fine, but the 6 weeks strict crate rest will be a nightmare.

Oh..bugger....not a good news. But at least there is one thing that can be seen as slightly positive note..it is a good time of the year for it, with bad weather and all that. Come spring, your injured one should be ready for new travels again with a new 'leg' ;)
 
Can crate rest include going out in a buggy? That could help keep you sane, at least.
 
Good point @Finsky! And yes @JudyN, the buggy is fine. It will keep him sane too, he really enjoys it.
 
Update.

Earlier this week, T had more x-rays under general anaesthetic (and a dental, one wobbly tooth extracted the others now looking gorgeous). The vet said he has damaged his cruciate ”good and proper”. She also said she was supposed to tell us that after the GA he would likely be a bit drowsy, not keen to eat, and out of it ... but in fact he was bouncing off the walls, none of them could believe he was just out of GA, or 11 years old.

He came home, peed, pooed, played, ate and drank then had a great night sleeping.

So he is to have TPLO surgery on the 23rd with a specialist. We then have to make sure he has crate rest so I've been out buying a new crate, so we can start retraining. He had a crate as a pup, but we got rid years ago.

You do realise the crate is meant to be big enough to stand up, turn round, and lie down in, don't you? You look a bit squashed in there.... :D

I hope it all goes well and the crate rest isn't too stressful for you all.
 
There is room for him to have rave party in that crate!! :D ...though it might be bit struggle for you..;)
Oh...and that buggy photo..he looks like he is enjoying having his private transport....all right for some. I wonder if he wants to go for a 'normal' walk again after getting 'pampered' with his wheels.
 
He's a lucky dog that you are preparing everything so thoughtfully.
 
Good for Timber, he looks awesome in his buggy! :) I've seen smaller flats than that crate! Hope it all goes well for him :)

Surgery day.

I had a call from the orthopaedic vet yesterday, just asking if we had any questions and he sounded really nice - I know you can't really tell; and efficient and capable are better than 'nice' but it was reassuring. So we dropped T off at 8.00, we may not get him back until tomorrow. If they keep him in, they can do better post-op pain relief, but if he is stressed he might be better here at home so they will make a decision based on which is better for him.

So, today I have to sit and wonder what sort of things people without dogs do to occupy themselves all day.
 
That sounds encouraging, and don't doubt your ability to sense "nice". Enjoy the novelty of a house that stays hoovered and dusted for more than thirty seconds. He'll soon be home.

Read a book, prepare food to stock up the freezer and/or other self indulgence. Hope it all goes well for you.
 
And if you haven't already, brush up on mental enrichment games!
 
Blimey, I can say I have had a 'pleasure' of having dogless day for yeeeears now. But if I were to have such a day, I would go and do something I couldn't do with a dog(s) around my ankles. You will have very anxious day or two ahead, waiting for a news...maybe a day out/visit to see something? To see garden centre's Xmas display? Couple of hours in nail salon having T painted on your nails? Hairdresser treatment? a tattoo? Seeing some historical property?
Just some silly ideas....:D:D
