Hi Kim and welcome :)

There is no real difference temperament-wise between the differing breedlines. The difference if any comes from human interference! Once a whippet of any kind of breeding has it's chasing/hunting instincts awakened by track training it can never be turned off! So a previously docile and laidback whippet could easily become constantly "on the hunt" that is to say always alert for anything which may be suitable to chase. I will always remember the day after I introduced my showbred whippet to racing - where as she could barely be bothered to leave the house - she became a real escape artist - she was just as loving as always but went ballistic if she thought she was going to race/chase etc :D

Hi,

It depends on the dog really and on how you bring them up ......My old show bred is my maddest Whippet (w00t) ....my 2 bigger racers are laid back and easy going and my smaller racer is great fun and loving, but she tends to be less tolerent of strange dogs who try to approach our pack (but she is top dog in my pack of 6, so this is understandable).....and she's very bossy, but again she's top of the pack :D ......hope this helps ........
